2023 USPS Mail Truck

With the fleet of Grumman Long Life Vehicle (LLV) getting really long in the tooth, and everything wearing out including the chassis we are getting to say goodbye.

These trucks were based on the 1982 Chevrolet S-10 Blazer powered by the 2.5L I-4 TBI "Iron Duke" and later the 2.2L I-4 iron block/aluminum head engine. The instrument cluster and front suspension was sourced from the Chevrolet S-10 pickup and S-10 Blazer sport utility vehicles. The steering wheels are embossed as "S-10".

Now with the added complexity we have a multitude of additional technology just waiting to break down and layers of procedures to no doubt prevent the operation of a postal vehicle in such an event. JOY-O JOY!

It's ugliness is due in part to the product mix changing. By product mix, I mean that there are many more packages being delivered now instead of letters, Hence the big box with walk-in access. I'm just glad to see the person in there! I wouldn't have been surprised to see the driver as "optional" in a move to self-driving technology. It may still be part of the long-range plan.

Yes.. They just seem to just keep getting bigger. If you remember the 1970's and expecting mail you were fond of seeing this come down the road.

My grandfather was a Postman for almost 40 years. Usually had a the more upright van style, would sometimes have one of the Jeeps. I can't tell you how much having the square door intrude on the rear wheel opening bothered me, as a weirdly car crazy kid. I still hate it.
