As you may know, I get A LOT of interesting emails and pr releases daily. I received a contact the other day requesting if I knew anyone with a muscle car interested in taking part in a video near San Francisco.

The info is as follows:
I am looking to book/rent/borrow a muscle car for a drag race scene near San Francisco that can pop a wheelie off the line.

Something like a Yenko, GTO, Dodge Charger 1970, Roadrunner...

With your knowledge, could you possibly point me in the right direction?

This will be filmed at Eagle Field Drags in Firebaugh, CA.

It’s for a video series we are doing. “If you beat my Lambo, you can keep it.” This is just a fun video where different cars will be racing, with the hopes of someone going home with a new Lambo.

We have everything is place at the track that would be there on any normal racing day, including ambulance, EMT, waivers, et cetera.

We are looking for a car similar to this (Yenko Camaro), that can pop a wheelie or at least close.

The race is this Saturday in Firebaugh. We know this is last minute and we thank you for your help.

We have a bunch of super cars like Lamborghinis, Porsches, et cetera, but no muscle cars.

We want it to race at least once (our last race).
Trying to sort of recreate the last scene from Fast and Furious where they race that 1970 Charger. But at a track.

To clarify, I am in no way associated with this event or its attendees or promotions, I'm just passing this along if someone is interested.

I have contact info if so.

JP

Typical kind of request from organizers who don't know a thing about these cars and don't really care.

I remember three and a half decades ago when some bozo found my phone number and called me while I was on vacation basically demanding I bring my yellow and white 71 hemicuda convertible out to his production company so he could use it in a chase scene for an upcoming TV show.

When I politely asked him 1) what he was paying me, 2) who was insuring my car and for how much, and 3) that I would not let anyone operate the car but me, he scoffed and berated me for even questioning him about these things when he was so graciously offering me all this free publicity for my car.

My local friend supplied most of the cars for Dazed and Confused, they trashed some of his cars. I have had other friends allow their cars to be used for local filming and they have been less than respectful to their cars. They are just props to people using them for TV or movies. Sometimes they remove inside or outside mirrors so they don't interfere with shooting, one time they removed the windshield of a car. They spray a dulling compound on shiny parts to prevent glare, it's difficult to remove and gets all over. The Dazed and Confused Judge had people sitting on the hood that caused damage. Don't do it, even if they pay you an attractive price.

Hi JP,

I’ve got a friend in the SF area with a couple seriously fast but stock looking Cudas. He may be interested, so I sent you a PM asking for contact details to forward to him.

I don’t know the specifics only what I shared. I do think they want the car owner to do the driving.

Really all I know other than really really short notice!

Need not look any farther than this to see what can happen:

When the prodcution company says the cars are all insured you can bet its only for the value at used car market price only.

?

Eagle Field is 2.5 hours from downtown San Francisco, 2 hours from San Jose and a nice drive over 152 depending on your rear gearing...

Hi Jp, that wasn't meant at you of course; I realize(d) that you were just passing this along, but like Steve & Tim - I would strongly caution anyone considering this type of adventure...

About 15 years ago, 2005 I think it was, I was at a cruise-in - Crystal Cove I think it was before they shut us down. And this Sunday am gathering attracted the best of the best in my experience there. Anyway, one morning they were putting flyers on certain cars - it seemed to be muscle cars and JDM types. It was a casting call for cars to be in a new movie.

If interested in having your car in a movie, they invited you to a meetup the next week, turned out to be an underground parking garage in Hawthorne I think it was, maybe Gardena... anyway, you had to show the flyer to get in and it was pretty cool - turned out to be for the new Fast & Furious movie in pre-production, I think it was F&F37 or something - the one to be set in Japan is all they would tell us. They didn't have a name publicized for it yet, but there were some movie cars there - all in all, a cool time and loud, every Honda driver that had a car there that was modded-out revved the beejeebus out of it and us musclecar guys would respond - kind of like a call and response - this actually made it into one of the movies - the one where the Hemi 'Cuda revs up before the street race with a Honda, Nissan, Toyota something...?

Anyway, they walk around the lot looking at cars and handing out contracts for your signature and further details if you're interested - they wanted my car and talked to me, and many others of course... I read through it; it was like a ten page legal document and when you read it closely, you were renting them your car at a rate TBD and they had complete control over the car and any and all operation - it was just a rental contract that said literally that they could do whatever they wanted, including mods (!) and in the event of any mishap would repair or replace at their discretion up to the "book value" of the vehicle or... and get this, if they decided, could keep your car (or what was left of it) and just compensate you that book value, not agreed value mind you - and never said which "book" either... you were basically selling your car to them for whatever they wanted to pay if they decided to keep it. This was while I still had my born with drivetrain installed mind you...

It was laughable really... I noped out of there after strolling around a bit and checking out the cars.

...anyway, that was the reasoning for my "ha" - nothing untoward meant at all Jp!

Cheers,
Anthony

I was told by someone in the film industry over THIRTY YEARS ago NEVER let your car be used in any film whatsoever, for the reasons stated above. She had many horror story's of cars being damaged, including the hood being dented on that Caddy (as the owner watched) when Milner (Paul Le Mat) jumps on the hood at the stoplight scene.

No worries! I wouldn't want anything to happen to anyone or anyone's pride and joy either. All good Anthony!

Do you have ballast in the back of that beauty?

Impressive.

No, fuel cell and battery in the back. Still has its factory gauge dash interior, carpet, heater, etc.
90-10 front shocks, 2.93 first gear, 4.88's, slicks, front comes up easy, sometimes much higher than that.
