1968 Ford Tunnel Port 302
Car and Driver tested one of those along with a 68 Z/28. Sam Posey did the driving.
I don't think it was ever put into production. Was it?

They tried but it was not a good engine. It's design - to rev to 9000 RPM to take advantage of the huge ports didn't take into account the lack of longevity of the bottom end. Almost all of the Ford Trans Am equipped Mustangs blew their engines long before the end of their races. The 427 Tunnel Port engine was a stouter design but it too went into history very quickly. It was replaced by the 427 SOHC engine.

The 302 Tunnel Port engine was listed in the 1968 Mustang brochure. I believe the engine code was "G"

Pontiac tried the same thing that Ford did with their RAV 303 Trans Am engine - nothing but problems and was never raced.
Both learned that giant intake and exhaust ports on a small 5.0 litre engine leads to disaster.

How about a 303 Pontiac?

Actually the 303 SCCA engine ran good, they took it to one race and were told not to bring it back as they only made 25 of them. They then tried the std deck 303 and it was a dog with both V and IV heads. They went to the Canadian 302 pontiac. This has a arm in it for 383 CI.Tom
Hmmm. Already planning for a happy 327 day. :)

Hey Happy 3/05 Day everybody! That special day where the nation mourns the darkest time in Corvette performance history. The 1980 California compliant 305 180HP Corvette.

Haha!
Today is the one year anniversary of me flying out to see what is now my '69 Z, so it's Camaro Day in our house. I choose to think of 3/05 as celebrating the 305 cu. in. limit in Trans Am that led to the Z/28 and the 302 ;) :beers:
