Starting into a 3" SST exhaust job on my mini-tubbed 72 Nova. Going to use the 3" PYPES Chevelle style tips out the back. I made rolled edges for them, thought I would share.
I know the welding is a mess but I'm just learning the Tig and SST is a little tricky for me still (need to make a back purge system).

Very nice,Jerry Beasley in Kentucky used to make them the same way over 20 years ago.I bought a set from him all bare, then I'd get them Chrome plated here. He'd grind down the welds & did fantastic work, just like you.
I ordered more, but he soon stopped making them and everyone set I got from him,I wish I had 2 more.
Thanks for sharing this.

For a "beginner" tig welder, they look damn good. I bought a tig machine 8 years ago and got frustrated with my slow development. It's SOOO much easier to pick up the mig and pull the trigger, and I'm pretty darn good with the mig, so my tig welds are just that much more frustrating, when I can't get them "right".

Thanks Guys. An experienced welder friend advised I should try a smaller electrode (1/16") to get better control of the arc which would allow a smaller weld and better heat control. With the 3/32"electrode I was finding I needed about 27 amps floored to get started then even backing all the way off on the pedal was still getting too hot and burning in after about 1/2" to 3/4" travel. So I had to do it in stitches.

It was a fun break from color sanding on the L78 car.

I got a set that are stainless steel and the welds can be grinded down and polished out.

Wheelhop has the last set that I sold and had made back in 2007....these were all made out of 304 Stainless Steal.

IMHO It would be easier to go from TIG ot MIG than vice versa - I base this due to TIG welders being much more conscious with surface prep & surface contamination compared to MIG welders.

I read A LOT ASBOUT TIG prior to buying one 15 years ago - I learned electrode prep and grinding makes a LARGE difference in weld quality.
I ground rods with a shop stone in a haphazard fashion and then on the correct GREEN stone GROUND CORRECTLY & which I only use for TUNGSTEN.
The difference between the TWO in ARC establishment and stability along with the lack of "wander" will make a person a BELIEVER!
