Hi guys. Im new to the forum. I have a slight dilemma. I have a Friend who wants a 1970 nova I have but wants it of course at a friend price. It is a project. Complete roller previous owner wanted the drive train (I tried to pay him extra and or trade him my own 4 speed and 350 to keep the numbers matching stuff but he wouldn't have it). Full bucket seat interior with woodgrain trim deluxe interior with rear arm rests...was a factory bucket seat 350 4 speed car. Has floor shift column. Has the trim around the windows and a l-88 scoop over the original ss hood with the tabs underneath for the louvers that are still there but hood is rusty. Cars original color on trim tag is under all of the ss parts and fender side grilles
It has a 12 bolt posi rear along with the factory rear sway bar setup. Has the front disc brakes with power brakes and power steering. The car has all of the SS markings such as the 3/8 dual fuel line, the dual exhaust plates on the rear frame rails, SS steering wheel etc. But no build sheet to prove any of that. (At least I never searched further than under the rear seat. I actually bought the car for the rearend about 18 years ago and it sat for a long time prior. But saw all of the signs it could possibly be real and let the car sit in my shop. It will need a drivers floor pan the rest are solid and the rear frame rails are good no rot. The trunk pan has some rust along with normal spots on door corners and lower front fender. It will need restored. I'm sure I'm leaving some stuff out. But I was wondering if you guys could help me price this car. I will never get to build it like I'd planned and I don't want to get taken to the cleaners on the car though either (he always ends up selling stuff he gets from me for a profit because I give him a good deal because he swears he's keeping and not flipping.). He wants to pay me 1500 to 1800. I had paid more for the car back then I cant remember how much more exactly I think it was under 2500 if I remember correctly. I'd have to look in my records when I get back. I never got the title because my plan was parts but I'm almost positive the guy would give it to me as we still are in contact.
So how I found this forum was I was looking up the rear sway bar setup, I was trying to see the value of parts and one popped up on here and I saw some value in that information and figured I'd sign up and ask you all if I should sell complete or if I'd be smarter to part it out and if I should sell to the friend or if I should ebay the car etc ( I could use the extra cash to help finish up another project)... I understand if you can't help me, I know it's a sight unseen thing. I just read some stuff about the rear sway bar stuff was either rare or hard to get. I even tried to negotiate with him on letting me keep the sway bar setup along with the rear to get him the car cheaper but he said he wants that stuff too. Thank you for your time.

Probably a 5-7000 car on eBay, without knowing anything else or seeing pics.

Welcome. Post up some photos and I'm sure we'll be able to offer some advice, but honestly, that price he's offering sounds way low to me... and it sounds like you're already a bit weary of his intentions, so let's get a discussion going here. Where are you located would be a good start in addition to some photos...
Cheers,
Anthony

Yes, I would guess that rear, if a factory posi and a popular ratio would be worth what he's offering... never mind the rear sway bar set up.

I’d like to find something like that. I have a 302 roller motor looking for a home.

Never understood what a 'friend price' is. If he's your friend he would offer more than $1800!
I agree with the above that the car is worth several times that.

The Nova 12 bolt is worth $1500+ all day by itself around here. Without seeing pics, I would say a fair price for the project is prob around $5000.
Please dont part it out if it is as salvageable as you describe. Someone will pay you a fair price and restore the car

As those mentioned above, probably $4-5k in parts all day, especially the rear bar if its all there and original. I don't know if all the interior is 100% intact.? but there's a few bucks there as well, especially if the wood grain door panels are in nice shape, buckets and possible console are a + as well

As others have mentioned....don't part it out!
Post some detailed photos so we can help sort out the condition and value...
The 12 bolt with rear sway bar setup is very desirable....the other items including interior, disc brake sub-frame, etc. all add to the overall package.
If the car is fairly solid it should be worth 5k to 7500...maybe a little more depending on the overall condition and components.
Post the photos and we will see what you got...

Your "Friend" is not even close in his offer. Without pics a good guess from your description is 5-7K range.

I'd pay $4-7K for a roller based on your description. If I got it for $2K I'd be ecstatic, assuming you get the title for it.

I'll get pictures this weekend when I get back out to the shop. I appreciate the comments. Yeah he swears he won't sell it and that was suppose to comfort me. And thanks for not bashing me into the ground. I was really nervous about posting the question about it but knew that this was the best place after Cruising the forums.

Been there, done that with the "friend" thing. I had a 1984 Kawasaki 1100 Spectre I bought new and had NO intention of ever selling. In 1997, I bought an used Harley and this "friend" started bugging me to sell him the Kawi because he missed having a motorcycle. I finally sold it to him at a "friend" price with the the strict stipulation, when he bought a Harley, like he really wanted, it ONLY came back to me and I would give him all his purchase price back. Yep, less than a year later, I found out he sold it for more than twice what he paid me. "Friends" like that aren't friends, and you have already experienced this with previous deals you've given him.
If you are afraid of pissing him off or losing him as a friend over this, don't be. Once he figures out he can't take advantage of you anymore, he will probably not keep in contact anyway.
You already have enough responses that the car is far more valuable than what he is offering, so take it from there. I have no doubt you could sell it on this forum quite quickly at a fair price AND have a new friend...

I agree with the above that the car is worth several times that.
I worked for a very wise Lady in the late 80's & early 90's - over 20 years she took Budget Rent a car franchise's - Memphis from six or 7 cars in the mid 70's to 1500 cars and Greenville from 13 cars in the mid 80's to 1500 and then sold them back to corp. she told me... If your believe your business offers a valuable product at a fair price - HOWEVER WITHOUT a discount your friends aren't willing to buy from you when they need it.
You will not be in business very long.
I rarely want to price a friends stuff... if they aren't willing to price it, I figure I can't afford it, then again I have "not" priced friends parts before and they sold them for 1/2 or less than I would have given them on the spot. SOOO sometimes you are damned if you do... and damned if you don't. IMHO none of it is worth losing friends or damaging relationships.
Lately I tell them if you make the same offer to someone and they throw a number out below xxxx CALL ME,
I don't want to offend a friend with a number they think is unfair, if they severely under priced something because of not keeping up with pricing and I realize that - I will say - hey that's worth double or triple that- if they say I know take it anyway, fine, however I am not going to lose a friend to parts or money.
NOW if a friend or hell anyone has something I really wanted... I would start making offers until it got either
- A - out of my price range - like SERIOUSLY OUT of my price range.
OR
- B - got obscene enough that I ended up with it.

Sounds like a pretty cool Nova for the most part.
Once you post some pics I wouldn't be surprised if you do a deal for fair market value with someone from these parts.
I'd be telling your buddy to take a hike out of pricipal.

If you sell it to him that cheap he will probably flip it and you will be so pissed you will loose him as a friend anyway. Don't loose the car. Loose the friend.

Like others said don't part it out but in parts alone I see 5-6K all day long.
Nova bucket seats are hard to find. The tracks alone sell for 400-500. The bucket seat frames are the same as A-body but the tracks are shorter for a Nova.

Been through this friends thing a number of time in business.
Best advice with my machining business from my customer/friend:
"DON'T work for car guys, THERE CHEAP! Most are DIY types that work on cars and don't SEE the value/time it takes to really make a part".
Now over the years, I DID work on car guys stuff, but that was with an open cheque book when they wanted some special or made better.
Now with the cars part of it, I told friends that "I want X for it. BUT if you want it you GIVE me X, and if you keep it, work on it and not try to just flip it, I will give back Y amount" The Y amount was usually 10% up to $1,000.
I also know people who WILL NEVER sell or work for friends just for the same reasons.
