67 camaro wheels and tires

My 20yr old son has a 67 camaro that is all stock and besides new metal, interior and drive train are original. Nothing too special 327/210 hp. He loves the 70s look with the big tires in the back and the crazy paint. O yeah shackle kits also. He is going with 15x6 cragers in the front and 15x8 in the rear. The tires he is thinking of getting are the BFGoodrich radial TAs. 205 60r15 for the front and 255 or 265 60r 15s for the rear. Any feedback on the tire, wheels and stance would be great. And what do you think about turning the white letters in. Thanks, Mark

Hi Mark, that's a great tire IMHO. And his plan sounds similar to what I did on my barn find '69 a few years ago...

I put the stock 14X7 XT wheels on the front with 225/70R14 BFG Radial T/As and used the as-raced 15X10 rims on the back with 295/50R15 - worked and looked great, again, IMHO. All with the RWL turned inward.

I have reproduction Corvette style rally's on my '67 Camaro. 15x6 front, 15x7 rear, with 215/65 front, 255/60 rear. They fit and fill the wheel opening nicely. The rears will rub the inside on a steep upgrade into a driveway, if I go in an an angle. Straight on and no issue.

If he is going black wall out, there are many tires with better traction ability than T/A's. I wish Rusted Tires had a better website with pics of the reproduction radials now available. I, and buddies, have had handling and traction issues with the T/A's and don't buy them, but that's just my experience.


I was able to attach a couple pics directly from the hard drive. Not sure why the back appears so high. I was moving it around with a floor jack and it maybe hadn't settled yet ?

255s will be great in the rear with an 8" rim with 4" backspace. That 205 60 15 is a very short tire in the BFG line. I put 215 65 15s in the front and liked them. White letter is preference. Cragars I might put them in but on Rallys keep them out.

No, these tires were on the wheels when I bought them. Some off brand that is actually a very decent tire. I'll have to go look at them to get the brand. My memory gets shorter every year.

I think I'm running 15x6 in the front and 15x7 in the rear (this was 15 years ago, I was 6, and my grandfather's memory isn't great) on 215/60/15 and 255/60/15. As you can probably tell, the springs are completely worn and it's never rubbed.

Here's my old 68 with 215/60 fronts and 225/60 rears using 15" x 7" rims both front and rear. Car was setup with multi-leaf rear springs and z/28 coil springs up front. Many a people commented on it having a great stance. Hope it helps.

Obviously I have skinnies up front, but the rears are 15x8 with a 4.75 back spacing running 275/60/15’s. Stock suspension with zero rubbing.

Front: 15X6 American Racing Torq Thrust Ds with Mickey Thompson Sportsman 26x7.50

Rear: 15x8 American Racing Torq Thrust Ds with Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pro with 28x10.50

Stock wheel tubs 4.50" back spacing on rear wheels.

I think it's got "the look" but these definitely don't drive as good as radials on the street. They definitely hook better!

Timely thread as I am trying to decide what to do with my 67. I have a stock suspension that I do not wish to mess with. Love the look of bias ply tires, but these 14’s make the car drive like a truck compared to more modern cars! Going with 15 inch Cragars and maybe just do a set of Firestone F70-15 repop radials. Anyone know if the firestones are black wall on the inside?

I think they're a little pricey for his budget, but they are killer. I think the blackwalls are gonna look good on his car with the cragars. His first car that he saved a few months back. He's gonna have it a long time and has a lot of things that he wants to do to it. I'll see if he wants to post a photo of it.. Thanks guys for all you input. I really appreciate it and so will he.. Just saying but tires are more important than wheels IMHO.

I did see a full set of used Cragar's on Facebook today in CT. They were priced at $1000 for the set of 4.

Already has the cragars. Just looked briefly but the firestones look like they would run him $5-600 more for the four tires. Are the radial TA's that bad? Are the firestone that much better than the TA's or are you really just paying for the look? I used them years ago and never had a problem with them. I do like the look of the firestones but I think $300 is a heck of a lot of money to spend on a street tire. Am I wrong?

Just saw the listing. Not a bad deal. Rims and tires look like they're in great shape. Direct fit too. If I needed a set myself, I would buy them.

Boy that combo looks great on that coupe. They really fit in there nicely. Do you really use that as a trailer car? If so that's great.

Yes, we've put 8,000 miles on the coupe traveling with the trailer. Furthest was a few years ago, to Gatlinburg TN for shades of the Past.
The top pic was at a Good Guys show in Nashville.

I'm sure there are a few vids on you tube of us on the freeways, but I have no idea how to find them. It does draw some attention going down the road...:smirk:

Nice rims. I also like the style of ridler and kmc wheels (https://4wheelonline.com/KMC-Wheels.298383) but I'm not sure if they have the size I need. If none, most probably I will get a set of Torq Thrusts.

Looks great Andy! I just ordered a new set of D70-14 redlines this morning to keep the original look and wheels while I keep looking out for a nice set of round spoke Cragars.
