Both are manganese (dark gray) phosphate.

The assm manual is a good source for how the assm line was supposed to build a car. After studying lots of cars over the years you will find the assm line worker didn't always use the known correct hardware. If you know a known correct car built close to yours, study it. If you were the first person to take it apart, use that style. I know a 12k original 69 Camaro that has different hardware on each side of the car...Joe

The horn bracket bolts on '69s were clear zinc only on early cars, after about November 1968 they were manganese phosphate.

Agree 100% with what Lloyd stated here. One of the biggest restoration hardware goofs on 69's is guys using zinc horn bolts. AMK includes them in there kit and is not correct but for a few very early cars.

You would lose points in Legends Judging in 2014 on a 5A car if you didn't have the zinc bolts. Ask me how I know. I think that may have changed now, but not sure.

Larry was a judge on my car in 2014, but he did not judge under the hood. I bought my car with 16,000 miles on it in 1979 and used a bundle of zip lock bags when I took it a part. I was pretty sure I was the first one to take the frontend off and made sure I put everything back where it came from.
Funny side story, George (No Yenko) and I each had extra bolts in our pockets so that we had the "correct" bolts for the fan shroud.
