This is a bit of a mystery to me and I kept this seat assembly because I had not come across this variation in a factory seat cover and frankly I put it away in storage forgot about it.

So this seat came out of a basic optioned Bolaro Red RS Vert 30 years ago that had no rework or restoration and was basically a very original rotter.

Anyone here ever noticed a variation in the material usage as evidenced on this cover at the top??

Hog rings all match for construction and patina, as does the original packing, backing and binding. This looks untouched in every way-- except I cannot figure the top of the seat cover construction.

I have theories, but they are just that...Anyone here have information that they can share?

----I don't think I'm telling you anything you don't already know, but that area is the most prone spot for sun damage in the whole interior. I think that area went south and a fairly good shop did a decent repair. The stamped pleats add to my conviction! GM would not have used that material there or anywhere!....Bill S

Yes, I have tried to rationalize it as a repair, too. The hard spot for me on the repair theory is why the shop would go to the level of complexity with this repair only to use what is arguably the most ugly kind of material possible and right on top where you will see it.

I had a repair like this that matched a custom package tray with the same pattern.

That's what it reminds me of too. Someone had a pleated tray cover made and had the top of the seat covered to match.

Reminds me of a Kustom guitar amplifier that I used to have.
