Daytona Yellow X-77 on BAT

Looks like a pretty decent car in a good color combo, but why would someone go through the trouble of repainting the car without painting the grille surround and getting the correct color on the grille. This along with a lot of other little details should limit what this car sells for. But of course 69 Z's have been a little insane over on BAT lately.


What do you guys think of the trim tag and engine stampings?

Lots of little things, but I dig the narrow rear spoiler. The misplaced front badge seems like the oddest one to get wrong…

Agreed that the tag is good. Engine stamping looks good too.
Theres no doubt its a real Z. I would not think it brings top dollar from the numerous issues I see with it. If it hits $50K the seller should take it.

The headliner and sail panels pretty much tell the story on the quality of restoration.

I think both narrow and full-width spoilers have been observed through at least 02D. Not sure how long the crossover was.

My bet is that car gets sold to someone who takes it to, not the next level, but two or three levels above where it is now, and sells it at an auction in January in Florida or Arizona. A yellow Z/28 with good numbers and tags will do the money if it’s laid out right. Lots to fix, but even starting at $50 large or so, there is still some upside hiding under the surface.

The small rear spoiler was still available into late February so the deck spoiler is likely original. I can't say the same for the cowl hood, or the styled trim group items that were added to the exterior. At best, it looks like an amateur restoration was performed and the car would need some parts/trim corrections and some paint repairs to make it better.

Yes agree, lots of little things wrong, and typical of an amathur resto.

Talked to Paul about the old Pro Stock days and the last of his Trans AM days . He has over 150 cars he will be selling on BAT. Guys please don’t kill him on the restoration........ He has kept his race car fabricators, welders and mechanics to restore these cars. ..... If not they would all be out of jobs !!!!!! They are learning as they go !!!!!! I wouldn’t want to RACE against him !!!!!!

Makes you wonder- who is suddenly buying all these cars at these prices? Everyone I know who has made a killing in the market is buying real estate, not cars. I realize this is anecdotal, but I'm just not seeing the buying frenzy happening in my circle of friends.

1. Inheritance. Lots of older people dying and HUGE amounts of wealth being passed on to middle age guys. People my mom's age (she is 92) have lived frugally since the depression. I had some clients (H & W) that died fairly recently that were still living in a 900 square foot rock house out in the boonies. They were worth $12.1M.

2. I realize some will disagree, but I believe that MANY small businesses applied for PPP loans that were forgiven, AND received very favorable tax breaks in the process. Freed up a lot of cash. While the $1200 check doesn't allow Bubba to spend stupid money on a car, Bubba's small business employer may have benefited way more than that. Just one example of some windfalls that were unintentionally created with the hand outs.

The way my business is set up (and a lot of others) I COULD have applied for a loan and made a big windfall. I did not because the pandemic really did not affect me that much.

Just the first round at $2.3 Trillion comes out to about $7,000 per person in the Country. If Joe Sixpack (and many others) only got $1200, that's a lot of unaccounted for scratch.

Real estate is over priced as well same FOMO. Best to sell high, wait/rent because there is going to be some fire sales in 24 months or less
