The Longest Day...

Today is June 6th, 2021...the 77th anniversary of the allied invasion of Normandy. It is important to remember all those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom on D-Day.

The photo below is a local navy veteran and his wife...he served as a gunner on a landing craft at Omaha Beach, he was wounded in the battle. They have been married for over 70 years.

It really hits you seeing those pictures that those were boys doing a man's job. How brave they were. The man I bought my first farm from went in on something like D3 day if I remember what his granddaughter told me. I believe it was the 3rd day after the invasion. Had to be a horrible scene.

I had an uncle who was a SeaBee in the Pacific for most of the campaign. His group was building landing strips on small islands ahead of the main group and got bombed and shot at regularly by the Japs. He lost most of the hearing in one ear from a bomb that landed very close to his fox hole.

The thoughts that I feel for these brave folks cannot be put into words...because words are nothing more than ones expression of thought....a deep few moments of silence is such a small token of these world heroes. God Speed to the past veterans and the veterans that are still with us.
