Trailer locks

Had a rude awakening tonight. I rarely leave my trailer out. When I do, I put a lock on it.

Been using this light weight little bugger; and discovered just how light weight it was. Could not get the key to turn, so got a hammer and tapped on the key thinking I could bump it loose. Would not come loose. Hit the top with a wimpy claw hammer and it popped the whole unit off. Not much of a deterrent.

What do you guys suggest for a trailer lock?

This is the set up I use on my Bulldog hitch. I removed the safety pin and chain and leave the collar on, lock on the downside, while towing as a safety too.

This is new to me and interesting, but it gives a thief clear access to cut the pin and go.

When the trailer is connected, I also use a combination anti-rattle/lock pin on the receiver like this one.

My nephew lives in Piedmont, OK where The Collar is made.

Seems to be unavailable at the moment.

Don't need the biggest and best; just something that will at least take some time.

Not the biggest or baddest (or most expensive; but bought this one today: Blaylock TL-22 Trailer Coupler Lock. Hopefully it looks intimidating enough to discourage thieves. They normally want easy pickins.

Same place I bought my set up from several years ago. The $10 lock is a cheap chinrose. Mine had one and it was OK, but seems experienced people can pick it too easily. I was going to order the Abus lock for $40, but the shipping quote was $19 ! WTH, to ship a small lock ? They are gone on vacation until the 28th, so will wait and call when they get back to see if they can get the shipping cost down to around $10.

Think I will buy a collar and a good circular lock. Will use it when the trailer is hooked up. Will put both locks one when parked and detached from the hitch. Still less then half the price of the provenlock brand.

I would have liked to see a direct hit with the sledge hammer on the orange aircraft aluminum cap. Seems to me that would be a weak link and once smashed the whole thing would come apart

I'm sure it's WAY better than the cheap ones he broke, but I feel pretty confidant in my stainless collar and circular lock. NOTHING is going to stop a professional who is determined to take your trailer. Hell, they just steal the tow rig and all when they want an expensive car inside.
