Hopefully someone can help give some guidance on a current conundrum I’m presented. The car we are restoring is in need of glass. I’m somewhat certain most, if not all, Yenkos came with non-tinted glass. The issue is that no where I can find sells clear glass with the ability to date code it. I have seen used glass but am not sure how good it would be to try and refurbish what is out there. It seems like the only option is to purchase either clear glass and seek out someone who can etch it separately, or buy tinted glass and ride that train.
Anyone help shed some light on what you would do given the situation? Trying to put the car back right and while I dont think there’s anything to point you to the car having clear or tinted, I’m somewhere stuck in the middle lol
Thanks
Andy

I'd maybe suggest you contact Auto City Classics. I have bought glass from them a few times and they will etch date it for you as well. I'm almost certain they offer clear, green or grey tinted versions.

I’ve checked with them on their website but currently they only have green tinted glass available. They did offer clear but it states that it is sold out.

The last date coded glass I bought came from Pilkington and it came out perfect.

Do they sell the side glass? Seems like I see a lot of posts about front and rear glass coming from them but not anything on the side glass.

Yes, I bought door glass and a windshield from them. My back glass was perfect so I didn't buy one of those but I believe they have them too. They're quite a bit higher than Auto City but since it's for a Yenko I doubt that's much of a concern.

I reached out to them via email and will see what they say.
I’ve had people tell me to go tinted and people say to go clear. Both have benefits, just unsure of best way to play it.
The last time I tried Pilkington 2 years ago, they said they were not doing vintage glass anymore. Perhaps that’s changed?
I used ECS Automotive Concepts, mainly because they were the only supplier, at least at the time, that would etch with PPG logos.

Before you move on, call Auto City Classics on the phone and talk to a person. Mike K. (if you get him on the phone) usually knows the actual status of availability of glass and date coding.

Current auto glass is processed differently than OE. In low light, it has obvious shadowing. We had to use repro door glass on our '67 Z/28 project and it did not fit well.
Were I doing a high-end car such as this, I would be on the lookout for nice original glass. Will take some doing [maybe parts car built around the same time] but the results worth the effort. Probably stuck using repro for the windshield.
