Seller says this one has had a poor quality repaint in the 1980s, but has only traveled 23,000 miles. Hard to say from the pics alone - looks to have been rattle canned and fluffed at some point in the distant past, but overall it looks pretty presentable to me.

Some ugly sanding marks on the block stamp,unfortunately...wish people would put down the abrasive and just strip the paint. Nevertheless, good colors and options (PW, factory air, etc).

What would it cost to strip and repaint that car?

IIRC, I read on this site a while back that Corvettes were difficult to strip the paint from.

Stunning car,but I've never understood a luggage rack on a Corvette.
Never seen anyone put luggage back there in the real world.
Is it for appearance only?

Agreed, great car, but the luggage rack would need to go.

I saw a C3 not too long ago around here with the t-tops on the luggage rack…

I've never looked under the rear of a C3 Corvette. What sort of access is there to be able to presumably put a nut and washer (actually eight of them) underneath to fasten the luggage rack to the car?

Not a lot with the tire tub and the gas tank in there! Once those are out, it’s like the trunk of a Cadillac!!

I had an '81 back in the day.

It had a plastic rack that folded out and screwed(with knobs) into the rear deck to use as a t-top rack. Came in handy.

As a side note, someone stole the T-tops off the car(they were installed at the time) when it was parked in front of the strip club I worked at. You could pop the t-top latch with a screw driver.

^ some people don’t even need a screwdriver; I had someone show me that they could get them off by just thumping them the right way with closed fists, it worked.

My '72 had a rack on it when I got it. When I repainted it, I filled the holes. I still wanted to be able to use it so I put rubber suction cups in place of the bolt holes and welded a 1/2" nut on the center of the gas cap. Then I made a billet aluminum bracket that spanned the center two rack spars. Flip up the gas door, place the rack, put the bracket on and tighten the bracket down and load the rack up. It worked really well. On and off in a couple of minutes.

----You are so right, Anthony! I was at an auction in Knoxville and bought an 80 Corvette. Parked it directly outside the entrance door, and when we went to go to our motel the T-Tops were gone. There were several thousand people there and a swap meet as well. I went the next day back in the swap meet and probably bought my own T-Tops back from the guy who popped them off.....Bill S

They are fastened down with well nuts, like the rad in a 69 Camaro.
