I came across this Hurst Competition Plus shifter today in my parts bin and was curious if it is anything special or just a run of the mill shifter. I searched the numbers on the housing but didn’t get any results. Thanks :biggthumpup:

The 6 digit number is just a serial number, not a date or application indicator...

Looks like a normal everyday Hurst shifter with handle cut off, mid 60's comp+

It has a stop bolt on the front but none on the back

The rear plate will fit a Hurst OEM shifter because they did not use the stop bolts

The patent number that is on later Hursts (3216274) was issued 11/9/1965. So should have been made before that, or not "too long" after that.

I assume it would have taken some time after the patent was issued for them to get the revised stamping worked into production -- but how long, who knows? (Like the Patent Pending Delco Remy distributor caps that were sold for several years after the patent was already issued.)
