Neat truck - claimed to be the 'matching numbers' 325hp engine but these days, without a picture of the deck, you just never know.
I'm of the opinion that every El Camino should have a bench and 4-speed, as this one does....

Long water pump and spin-on oil filter on a '68? That usually means engine swap....
Except the heads don't have accessory holes. Looks like someone just wanted to convert to the 69 style ps pump and alternator mounting.
If you ever tried running a passenger side alternator on an engine without the accessory holes, you will know why someone fabbed a mickey mouse bracket set up for the lower alt mount bolt on this car.
He probably added ps, and could not find the correct ps pump mounting brackets. They are vary scarce. All the lower HP engines used a different set up. On my 68 El Camino, to run and 8 inch balancer, I had to modify the ps bracket to clear.

The LWP crossed my mind too...good eye on the non-accessory-hole heads.

----Had to cut the radiator shroud for clearance! It would seem to me that 68 Corvette power steering stuff would have filled the bill and be relatively easy to track down.....Bill S

Point taken and good catch on the cylinder head bolt holes Lynn! It's beyond my comprehension why anyone would swap to LWP, unless just using parts available?
Cutting the lower ps bracket for 8" balancer clearance would be much easier than mickey mousing an alt bracket IMO.
