It was a 350 SS/RS ermine white with black vinyl top and black interior 4 speed with console.I painted it blue and removed the vinyl top. The pic with the black wheels are circa 1973 and the one with Keystones all around is circa 1975. Keystone pic is with a big block 70 402 from my brothers Chevelle. With the big block I ran headers and 456 gears. It was a really good running car. Ripped it n street raced, went through other engines, a 68 Z 302. The big block was my favorite and that’s the reason I chose my present 67 4K.

This is the same as my first car in early 1970. 1954 2 dr sedan. It had the 235 with babbit bearings and didn't last very long...3-4 months as I recall.

My first car was a Fathom Green '69 Z with black standard interior, 4.10 gears, AM radio with rear speaker. Also Z21 style trim, N34 wood wheel, and spoilers. It came with a set of headers with the air pump plumbed in but I removed the air pump stuff and put it on the shelf in my parents' garage. I think my parents tossed that stuff because I never saw it again. I kept the car for three years and traded it for a Tahoe Turquoise '67 Z.

70 Nova, bought new in June 1970. Hugger Orange, black standard interior with rubber floor covering (no carpet), 307, factory floor mounted 3 speed. Picture is at my parents house....you can see window sticker still in the rear quarter window. Within 3 weeks, OEM exhaust was gone replaced by a Midas dual system with glasspacks, and the rally wheels were replaced by some Keystone mags that looked similar to Torq-Thrusts but with dark spokes. Sold it 5 months later because it wasn't fast enough :3gears: The guy I sold it to, his girlfriend rolled it a couple months later and it was fixed but repainted blue. They eventually got married and put over 100K miles on it.
What I REALLY wanted was the Citrus Green 70 Z28/RS on the showroom floor, but the $140/month payments scared me so I bought the Nova with $77/month payments....and proceeded to make double payments every month :stupid:

OMG. That is frikken amazing. We may be cousins in a parallel universe. My first car (Jan 6, 1969; twelve days before I turned 16 and got my license) was a light green 54 two door sedan Chevy. Paid $75 for it. Previous owner blasted through a police barricade, so the hood was concave in the front, and headlight buckets were toast. I had to change out the popsicle sticks and rubber bands that held the headlights in position every two weeks (didn't know how to describe it back then, but today we would say no UV protection on the rubber bands).
Brakes failed. I rebuilt the master in the driveway, but it didn't hold (I am certain it had deep pits in the bore, but at 16, wasn't smart enough to know the difference). I drove it for a month (including taking other kids to school on car pool day) with no brakes other than the hand brake. The last two weeks of that there was not handle on the park brake.... just a pair of vice grips. The kid's parents would have gone into a coma had they known. One of those "kids" is still a very good friend of mine). Drove it til it threw a rod. Actually drove it another 20 miles AFTER it threw a rod. What a wild noise, that broken rod swinging around and hitting the block with each revolution. But it made it home. Sold it for $10. The guy who bought it (he ended up in prison for "chop shop" stuff") hooked a chain to the front bumper to tow it away from my parent's house.... and the front bumper fell off... seriously. Hooked the chain to the frame and drove it off. He sold the AM radio for $10 so considered it a win.
Now, my second car....... really nice 57 Chevy 210 2 door sedan, Tropical Turquoise with white top and side panel. Wish I had never let that one go. Not a fast car by any means, 283 PG, but so many memories. Still have a hard time passing on a nice 210 two door, two tone car, especially if it is tropical turquoise and white. Guess I could settle for black and white.

My first car 1969 Camaro RS/SS 350 4 speed. Bought in Oct 1979 for $1100.
Original paint back then. I wanted a 1970-72 Chevelle SS but found this first.
Painted it in 1982 and changed stripe color to white, then in 2004 I went through it all over again and put the original IF coded 14x7's back on it. Build sheet was always on the tank but never retrieved it until around 1998 or so.
Still have it today. Its a miracle that it traveled around from storage shed to storage shed with me. Almost sold it numerous times. We have our 42nd Anniversary together in about 3 weeks!! :worship:

My ultra rare 69 conv with the 250 6 cyl and PG transmission. It was all I could afford while in college in 1985 and I had the local vo-tech school do quarters and repaint it the original rally green. I liked the look of the Z28 stripes so I had them do that as well.

My first car. Bought it from a neighbor in 2003. She was the second owner, owned it since 1972. The car was an original Maroon car 327 2 barrel with a glide and 2.73 gears. When I was 16 nothing was cooler than Lemans Blue, wish I would've kept it Maroon. Now a pretty stout 350 with a Tremec and a Moser 12 bolt. I still own the car.

My first car was a 71SS Chevelle 350 2 barrel, 245 hp I bought for $400. I ran the livin daylights out of that car. I ended up parting it out and selling the body to a stock car driver. Bought from original owner Oct of '67. What we now call "Day 2" started immediately beginning with peeling off the SS stripes. I flogged the original 396 to death, Hurst, Hooker, Crower, 4:88s etc, etc, then an over the counter L88.
Since 1977 a '69 L78 that I've gone through twice.

Nothing exciting, but mine was a beige 1985 Olds Firenza sedan, in all its 85-horsepower overhead cam fury. First car also became my first wreck after hot dogging it on a gravel road, sliding off the edge of the road and parking it on its roof. No photos of the actual car seem to have survived.

Not my 1st car, but the 1st car I learned to drive in. A 1966 AMC Ambassador. My folks were willing to give it to me, but I wanted a 1969 Camaro. I eventually got the Garnet red/red 1969 Camaro by working at McDonalds etc. I think it cost me $1400. There's a guy close to me that has a red/red 1969 that I think is my 1st car. I told him to give me 1st crack at it if he sells it. The 1966 AMC Ambassador is really a pretty nice looking car. It had a 327CID engine and reminds me of a 1965 Chevelle. It would be cool to have today and would be a great LS swap car. Here's a pic off the web of what it looked like.

Y'alls first cars were way cooler than mine. I turned 16 in 1992 and my first truck was my Grandmother's 10 year old GMC 1500 regular cab long bed. It only had 32k miles on it when I got it. I begged my parents to let me buy a 1st or 2nd gen Camaro or Trans Am but they weren't having it. So, I got the hand-me-down truck. It was pretty nice but I never stopped wanting a sports or muscle car.
I kept it for 2 years before buying a 1988 300ZX 2 seater automatic that was loaded with every option except for the turbo. I was still under my parents roof so a Camaro was still out of the question. The 300ZX only had about 30k miles on it and it was a great car. I thought it was the coolest with the digital dash and t-tops. Definitely one of the nicest cars in the high school parking lot.
One day, the summer after graduating high school, I was in a neighboring town(Sherman, Tx) and drove past a used car lot with a red '87 IROC Z that I just had to have. It was a 305 TPI automatic with power everything and t-tops. Swapped the 300ZX even for it and didn't even ask my parents. They were not pleased with me. Of course, it ended up being the biggest turd I've ever owned. lol After finally getting fed up with the constant problems that car had, I ended up swapping that even for another low mileage 300ZX 2 seater. This one was a 87 but it was a 5 speed manual, my first manual! Loved that car too.
No pics of the GMC or IROC but here's the first 300ZX. I thought those terrible wheels looked good back then. Uggh. Anyway, like I said, you guys had way cooler first and second cars than me. Makes me wish I had been born about 10-15 years earlier!

My first car in 1980 was a 70 SS-350 Camaro. Bone stock Camaro Gold w/ vinyl top, auto on column and no gauges. By '83, I had the vinyl top removed, repainted blue with Z-28 stripes, spoiler and snorkel. Changed it to 3-pedal about the same time. Drove it from MD to CO and back twice for college. Somewhere along the way, I replaced the snorkel hood with an L-88 glass hood. Graduated college in '87 and sold it in '88 as I thought it was "the adult thing to do"...urgh...regretted it the moment I took the kid's money. Heard it got wrapped around a tree in the early 90s. Still have the snorkel hood in my shed.

Not a great first car but it was free since my parents gave it to me. Around 1978-79 they bought a new car for my mom and I got her 1972 Buick Skylark 2 door. Gold, black vinyl top and saddle/gold interior. 350/automatic on the floor. Was a nice car but not muscle/sporty.

They are Mickey Thompson Rader wheels. They have a single rib down the center of each spoke. The George Barris batmobile had those wheels on it too.

At the ripe old age of 15 (1987) I bought my first 1969 GM A Body.
1969 Beaumont (with Chevelle front clip)
Side note: Soon after a girl caught my eye and this car took a back seat. You can see the church we got married in, in the back ground of the photo, we walked across our neighbours back yard to get to the church on time…. I forgot the rings so Dad ran home and got them :-)

LOVE a 69 Chevelle!!! Funny - a chevelle was my first "want" a 1969 at that! but would've taken a 66-72. My dad and I looked and looked at every Chevelle around for over a year. This was 1987-1988. With his encouragement to consider something other than a Chevy, I began to research a bit more.
He suggested i look at Buicks , Olds and Pontiacs and offered to match every dollar that I saved so I could get a much better car to start with.
Not long after we found the W-31.
While Ive never owned a chevelle I did recently purchase my next project.
A 1968 El Camino SS396. Maybe that will fill the chevelle void?

Here are a couple Polaroids of my 70 Chevelle as purchased in May of 1987 at the ripe age of 15 for $250. It was originally a red L34 bench seat 4 speed car with tach and gauges and power steering being the only other option it had. Motor and tranny were long gone by the time I got it and over the next 15 years this car taught my why the pro's always say to buy the best car you can afford because it was a complete money pit and needed everything. Looking back my only regret was that I didn't give up and sell it sooner but 70 Chevelle Super Sports are still one of my all time favorite muscle cars. I ended up driving the green 77 Volare sitting next to it a lot more than the Chevelle, that car was literally bulletproof with a solid lifter slant six.

I think we've played this game before, but here goes. First 'car' and first 'real cars'.

I can't find any pics of my first (a Marina Blue 66 Chevelle SS 396), but here are some good ones:
1. My Dad's first car - Factory solid red 55 Belair, lightly hot rodded.
2. My Mom's first car - Repainted red 55 Belair (born 2-tone red and white).
*These two 55's are why I exist. Mom and Dad were both cruising downtown Salisbury NC, and stopped to talk because of their matching cars. Now here I am!
3. My Dad's second car (with Mom's 55 in the background). 60 Impala, factory high-horse 348-tripower 4-spd car, but with a 63 409/425 2x4 transplanted into it in late 1963/early 1964. His buddy bought a new 63 Impala SS with the 409/425 and hated the cam and the temperamental carburetors. Told dad if he would put a single 4-barrel on the 348 and swap the engines, he could have the 409. Good deal for Dad!!
And yes, he liked those tube grills!

Bill, The first owner lived two streets over from me in Hanover Ma. I didn't know is name. It could have been Charlie because Hanover is in between Wellesley and Cape cod The second owner was Brad Quinn from Hanover. The third owner was Bobby Denneen from Deneen Auto Parts in Hanover. The forth owner was Julie McKinnen from Hanover. I was the fifth owner in 1976. When I bought it the floors, trunk, fenders and Quarters had already been patched from rot. Typical New England car. I pulled the motor and trans to put in a 71 Chevelle SS 454 roller I bought for $600 and sold the body for $200. I saw the car 6 months later at Barrows junk yard on top of 10 cars crushed. I still have the CE 512 motor that came out of it. I've had it in two different vehicles since.
April 1972. Yep, and nobody knew what they were, including myself at the time. One month shy of 15. All I knew was that it had the 427 that I had dreamed of.

Ha!
I can do that, too (although I'm not totally sure this would be my first car).

Yes it was. Oddly enough, Jerry M. Was one of the guys in the crowd. We all hung at the Burger King and other spots like that. Nobody knew what the car actually was at that time. Sure would like to find it. Before I am too old to take it for another blast. Still friends with my buddy that drove it home that night. I was about a month shy in getting my license. All true!
Fortunately my Dad signed for me. Payments were I recall 63.00 a month and I paid every cent of them. It was advertised in the local newspaper classified section. Originally, I was trying to buy a GTO, 69 I believe. It had a 427 stuffed under the hood. Dad had heard a description of it and said he wouldn’t sign because it looked and sounded like a race car. The Yenko would have run circles around that GTO. Gosh, seat belts? No way. We didn’t even consider wearing them then. Amazing I didn’t get hurt in that car.

4th of July parade 1975ish . Was around this time I was around 11 or 12 my dad told me to go in the garage and pick out something red I would like to have . Had to choose between a new red Schwinn 10 speed a wheel barrel or the roadster . I picked the roadster , was happy to keep pedaling my 3 speed bike . Ended up getting the ten speed later after all and dad kept his end of bargain after all conditions and stipulations were met . Thanks pops !

So cool. My first car was "almost" a green Yenko Nova. Dad and I looked at it and drove it but it was $1200 and he wouldn't cover the delta. Plus he thought it was too much for a first car. I ended up with a $250 67 Camaro 327 which was still ok, and probably why I survived. ;)

My first car in early '60's. I think I was about 12 years old when the guys in Shop Class were undertaking projects to build a Hydroplane (I lived in Florida on the Gulf Coast) and my parents said "no way". So, I twisted their arms and said I won't even think about building one of those if you buy me a car, so that's what happened. They knew I was a car guy from a toddler....always had a car in my hands, then model car building (won awards in the Revell/Pactra Model Car Contests...remember those?). I could drive with my "Learners Permit" at 14 in Florida, so I was all set. I worked on my '55 for several years, including installing a new 327 crate engine (pulled the 6 cyl...great engine, but I had to have the V8)! When I turned 16 it was ready the first trip to High School! This is a pic my Dad took of me on my way to High School for the first time in my '55. Good times!!!

No, I'm in Pennsylvania now. I do miss Florida, but there are some good things about living outside the Sunshine State (but not much!). I lived in Sarasota for around 20 years total (moved back after college, and living in Illinois where I bought my '67 Chevelle SS L78 in '67).
I do remember growing up in Sarasota in the late 50's when it was mostly orange groves and no condos on the keys...was pretty nice back then! And we rarely used the a/c!

Any chance you would have any record of the VIN for that LS6? I have a database I started in 1981 and it would be cool to see if the car still exists. I have "approximately" 925 VIN's, buildsheets or other information on LS6 cars so who knows. Would be neat to find out it still exists.

Hi Rick. I will have to look and see but I dont think I kept any documents. I sold it to a fellow that lived in North East Philadelphia. Now he had shown the car several times at the civic center auto show in PA for a few years but I really wish I could find out where she is. I can tell you this that was one of the fastest cars I have ever been in. Sold it in 1983 for my first 1969 Z28 camaro and just never looked back.
