1970 Chevelle SS LS5 Canadian Docs

Good friend of mine passed away about 5 years ago, his wife called me about a year after he passed wanting to sell the Chevelle. We made a deal, but I never picked it up. Going out this morning to take a second look.
So here's my 2 questions, I don't believe it has the correct number matching M22... how much does this hurt the value and what would you guess at a fair market value for this Chevelle is?
It does have the correct number matching LS5 and the correct number matching rearend, 70,XXX mile car.
I watched this car in the paint shop as well as being restored, it's a beautiful car.

Wow what a stunning car.
As long as you have original motor and rearend, I don't think a non-born with trans will hurt the value.

If you don't want to pick it up maybe you could "loan" it to a fellow member here on this site :-)

Thank you, transmission numbers are really tough see with out having it on the rack. All of the paper work shows it does have the M22

Missing distributor, carburetor, exhaust manifolds, wrong booster ( but have the correct one) correct dated alternator and starter. Correct born with motor and rearend.

Okay...found the transmission numbers, unfortunately it's not the born with M22. It has a P2C22C....1972 March 22nd M22

Very very nice car. Now get rid of the cowl grilles. SS cars never came with cowl grilles. They are a Malibu thing and many restorers always make that mistake. Also, the air cleaner hood seal is upside down but probably glued down. Easy to replace if you want to make the effort.

The cowl Ind. hood seal needs to be turned right side in and right side up.Does it come with it's original AO Magnum 500 wheels and its muncie shifter handle & knob too?

Are those deluxe seat belts? Would console be listed on the VVS sheet for Chevelle?

Looks like an aftermarket intake and that upper alternator bracket could be changed to the correct one, same with PS adjuster. Very minor fixes. But it’s got headers, so would be a cool car to rip around in. Hope original wheels are with it too.

Have not nailed down the price yet. Verifying what Original number matching parts they have.
Saw the seal as well. It has the correct AO wheels, but unfortunately they September 22 date code. Shifter handle and knob...are MIA. But didn't go thru all the boxes.
Didn't know this about the cowl grilles...if we make a deal, they will be gone!
Need to double check the rear end numbers.

Yes, deluxe seat belts. Not sure if they are original to the car, but they are dated 7A70. I thought the console would of been on the build sheet as well ?? There are pictures of the console in the car before restoration began....for what that's worth!
Correct intake and alternator brackets come with the car, missing the carburetor.

I agree on this Color, I had a buddy had a LS6, AT car in this color combo, only his had a white vinyl top too, traded it in at Car Village in Lebanon Pa in the fall of 1979 0r 80 for the Red 71 Motion Camaro, The BM Camaro is well known but as far as i know the Misty Turqouise Ls6 has never surfaced as far as i know ???

Those are RPO A-39 brushed metal deluxe seat buckles,and not original to this car as it came with standard black plastic.
The Bucket seats are original,but it originally came without the RPO D-55 console.
Entire Firewall should be black,not body color.
The Front center grille bar should be black too,not body color,seeing as this is an Oshawa built car.

That's a rare color and a beautiful color combination Blown32. The transmission wouldn't hurt it much in my opinion since it's a documented M22 car, especially if it's got a warranty replacement M22 with a CT or CC stamped case. The trim tag and body colored firewall would bother me more than the transmission but like you said, at least they didn't remove the tag. I'd take a beat up tag over a repro any day of the week. Prices are all over the map and fakes outnumber the real ones 10:1 so it's really hard to put a number on a car like this without seeing and inspecting it in person. Good luck whatever you decide to do though.

I don't know that the wheel dates are out of line for an Oshawa car. If they had a large order of wheels, say 15,000, sent early in production, that would have covered 3,000 builds and with less than 4,000 total for LS 5 and L35 cars, that group would have been on most of the total production of SS cars for the entire year.
Are the wheel dates all close together ?
Yeah, the restoration wasn't exact to production, but there are enough aftermarket goodies to feel it is a day 2 build...:biggthumpup:

I would have assumed as well SS 454 ...came with a posi and buckets came a console.
All 4 wheel dates are the same.
I agree, it's a great day 2 build, Workmanship is excellent and outstanding on the paint and body work!

I've had 2 Oshawa built L35 '70's now. The first was an automatic with buckets and console, but no gauges or posi. It did come with A/C, an AM/FM stereo and rare power door locks. Someone wanted a gentleman muscle car.

My current one was built to run. L35, posi, gauges and buckets but NO console. It, too, has A/C.
I owned a Kansas built LS5 from '73-79. M22, 3.73 posi.
Curiously, none of mine were ordered with the ZL2 hood. I'm always surprised to see so many other cars with that on the build sheets.

Yes, the entire instrument panel assembly appears to be reproduction with the solid lifter tach. Car was never ordered with the U14 option.

Oshawa LS5 production totals were 299 for U.S. sale & 137 for Canadian sale. Here are the docs & tags from mine. Both were Long Island sold cars that managed to stay local until I found them.

Do you mean the L-34 396/350HP?,you couldn't get an L-35 396/325HP Super Sport Chevelle in 1970.

So besides the insterment pane being a reproduction (I know it is) are all the gauges correct for the LS5 other then the tach?

Per the gauges,Green tinted numbers/letters paint are correct for 1970.
White tinted numbers/letters paint are correct for 1971-72.
Those are the correct style gauges for 1970-72 Chevelles though,but they do reproduce them today..Better close up pic would help,especially of the tachometer.

Pretty cool that the engine stamp for John's LS5 and Grunts red LS5 are identical. Also interesting that the white car was built ten days before the red car and the engine stamp is three months earlier, surely one of the earliest CRT dates out there? Those GM of Canada docs are priceless.
