Neat car, didn't realize just how rare these were. Check out the original window sticker...the engine was a $1725 option - that was a lot of coin in '66.

I also love the test description on Ford company letterhead....

These were extremely fast cars that smashed many records. Thankfully for us Bowtie guys, they were so rare that the chances of encountering one in the wild was very slim!

Just like the Dodge and Plymouth WO cars for racing the NHRA dictated at least 50 be sold to qualify in their stock class. 1966 Olds W30 production was 54 for the same reason.
Were there equivalent makes from Chevrolet, Pontiac,Mercury,Buick for the same timeline.
I know the ZL1 Camaro and 68 Hemi Dart fell under the same rules.

Fred Gibb order for 50 COPO ‘68 L78/TH400 Novas falls in that category. Ford’s initial build of 50 identical 1968 428CJ Mustang fastbacks to allow the cars to compete in the Winternationals is another example. The difference to me in that era is that Ford and Chrysler were generating these builds internally to meet specific competition goals, while GM after the 1963 Racing Ban seemed to need advocate dealers to make these kinds of limited builds happen.

What were the real horsepower and torque numbers for the side oiler??

The 425hp rating seems conservative....
