Interesting history.

Mark Canning called it out as having a fake tag back in 2007. Had an 05D tag that did not line up with the vin.

Funny, after Mark says it should probably be an 04L tag, it shows up at BJ auction with an 04L tag.

Which is why I never say what the build date should be.....

Is the current tag also a fake?

Thought crossed my mind that maybe after it was called out, that someone put the original back on. Not likely I know.

I have to say, after about 2005, the TT.com tags are a lot better than the early ones. That's what we get for making all the mistakes public.

The 4L tag looks legit to me. It seems some previous owner ? put a repop tag from 05D on it to help sell the theory of original engine. Engine is stamped V0516DZ

Wouldn't an original red Z have black Stripes?

Yes. Garnet red had black stripes. Burgundy had white

Seller should take the money. Definately a different attitude on that site with the comments.

I think it is funny that some joker on there says the "numbers" guys are ruining the hobby.

It is the guys re-stamping engines, trans, rear axles, and putting on fake trim tags that are ruining it.

Yes. Garnet red had black stripes. Burgundy had white

Unless a particular car had a white vinyl or convertible top then the stripes would be white.

Exactly!! One of the main reasons I don’t post deck stamps or either. Someone is always quietly learning how to make a better fake when you provide a blueprint.

Seller got a little salty that the car didn't bring $100k+ like some of the Z's on BAT have brought. Someone called out the trim tag issue early in the string of comments, not sure if that affected the results or not. Seller claims he is going to twin-turbo LS the car. Might as well - it could be a real Z, or it could just as easily have been an X11 or X44 car that was made into one. No way to tell for sure now.

I just shake my head about some of the regulars on that site whining about people asking about the provenance of cars that are advertised as real-deal rare, highly desirable collectibles with original components. If you own an original Rembrandt and you see someone hawking fakes, aren't you going to get a little pizzed that the value of your investment is being diluted?
