Does anyone know the time frame when the obligatory yellow Accel were introduced?

Thanks,
Tim

I remember Reggie Jackson doing full page ads for their products in the late 70's in Super Chevy etc, where those yellow wires were featured. They were super popular into the mid eighties for sure!

Can’t say they are definitely accel but I have pics of a 70 RA firebird engine that was raced w what looks like accel super stock wires. There was an article written on the car I can read it again and see if it says what the wires were

I’d say just look at an old magazine and see when the advertisements for the started maybe and old super stock magazine .

I remember when i worked at a local speed shop in Calgary in 1974 that Accel yellow wires were used, so i would say early 70,s? Personally I hated them and I used to use Mallory or Packard orange wires. There was also Prestolite ignition too.

The Echlin Bros founded Accel ignition in the 70's. So far I can't find any definitive year, but as others have said, I saw them on cars in the early 70's.

Echlin remedied its neglect of high-performance ignition systems with a program started in the 1970s. Racing quality ignition parts were marketed under the brand name ACCEL which, despite fierce competition, soon became the leading name in its field.

I was just considering options when I revisit the L88 in the HM 68

If you like the color and appearance, they would be a good fit, even if they MAY have been replaced a few years after the build...

I know this thread is a couple of years old but my curiosity got the best of me. The June 1971 issue is the first time the plug wires were advertised in Hot Rod. Accel first appeared in the February or March 1971 issue advertising a distributor but there were no mentions of the plug wires or the coils.

(This is perfect for me because apart from the distributor itself, which is a breakerless (51100E) I'm trying for 1972 at the latest on my car, at least externally)

That's cool, but the breakerless is more of a concession than anything. I don't really want a points distributor- at least, not yet.

Not a huge fan of the dual point, but I love the yellow Accel wires. I think that is what I had on my Z/28 when I put the LT-1 engine in it circa 2012.

Sure enough. Here is an engine shot from 2014.

Orange, bare aluminum, Cermachrome and Yellow go together quite well...

Not plug wires. But hanging around at an AMC swap meet I snagged a NOS Accel dual point. It’s in my little collection with my NOS Mallory, and my almost NOS Grant Flamethrower.
