A couple years ago I was able to acquire a 1967 Z28 RS that is unrestored and has all the original paint and interior. I purchased the car from the original family who bought the car new about 20 miles from where I live at Clarke Chevrolet in Laporte City, Iowa. Its an M21, 4:10 car with a cowl plenum. I have the factory window sticker, invoice and POP. Original color of the car of Tahoe Turquoise. I thought perhaps the Z28 fans on here may like a look. It's quite a cool car. Not sure how many of the 67 Zs have their original paint but this is one of them. Sorry for the crappy pic!

Very nice. What other options does it have beside RS and Vinyl top?

Wow. Dead ringer for the one out of Oklahoma City that I rode around in during my HS days.

Never seen another TT RZ Z with black vinyl top and white stripes.

Great memories.

The only thing special would be the 4:10 rear. The cowl plenum is an original set up from GM but was purchased after the car was ordered.

Funny enough. When I purchased this car, the original engine was missing (have original trans and rear) but has one of the original 1967 Z28 motors from the original 602 cars. When I ran the VIN through NCRS, it came up as a car sold new in Oklahoma. That would be an interesting connection.

Not the window sticker, my apologies but rather these docs. I have the POP too.

Oh my my my my....

This Z was ordered new by my life-long best friend Joel (registered in his Dad's name), who passed away far too young. 20 years last month.
Thinking back to decades past brings a multitude of memories, stories, and emotion for experiences we shared with fast cars, and life in general.

Clint, Dave and I are planning to stop by to see you soon.

Wow, the wholesale invoice is a form I rarely see. That is very cool. I wish NCRS could validate Camaro paperwork.

Because Joel was employed in the service dept he was likely privy to paperwork that retail customers never saw. Rest assured that any docs Clint received with the car are real.

The transport delivered it on a Saturday morning, Joel was not there. He got a phone call, "I don't know what the heck this thing is you ordered, but it's here!"
He went in, did the dealer prep, and made it's debut on 4the street in Waterloo that evening. Thus, the legend began....

I know for a fact that my friends car was hit lightly in one of the quarters. I didn't see it after it was hit, as he had already sold it and the new owner crunched it. Can't remember which side got hit. He said it wasn't bad. That car also did not have the original motor when he sold it. Car was stolen. Engine was mia when it was recovered.

When I ran the VIN on the engine pad, it came back to Craig’s Chevrolet in Edmond , OK.

I do not know if my friend's car was bought new at Craig's Chevrolet. I do know he purchased it from there as a used car in 69 or 70.

Pretty sure Craig's became Craig Ayers Chevrolet. Craig had a son named Woodie, and it became Woody Ayers Chevrolet. I am sitting about 3 miles from the original location as I type this.

Joel's Z... February 1968. At ten months old the Z was well into Day 2 modifications. It and the black Chevelle were heavy hitters in area street racing.

This pic hangs in my shop and is special to me because of my relationship with the cars and their owners.

It's just awesome that there are caretakers that through all those years took care and kept them so we can enjoy them today.

Tahoe turquoise is stunning!!!

Fronts were grey center ET five spokes. At some point the rears became 15x10 steelies with slicks out past the quarters a couple inches.

I remember Joel offering up the rallys for something like $75.

There's a red RS '67 Z that was turned into a drag car around 1972. It's still around. It was also from Craig's Chevrolet in Edmond, OK and the serial number of that car and your engine are less than 100 apart. Both are 03B Norwood cars

When I ran the VIN on the engine pad, it came back to Craig’s Chevrolet in Edmond , OK.

The Z and the Chevelle were on the edge of streetable, as were all the fastest cars at that time. Note that the Chevelle is hooked to the El Camino by a tow bar.

We all had a DD of some sort. Joel had a 327 4 speed '65 El Camino as a DD.
The 302 had been massaged and balanced using an off road Z-28 cam IIRC. Ladder bars and 5.38 gears.

"The 302 had been massaged and balanced using an off road Z-28 cam IIRC. Ladder bars and 5.38 gears."

I have 4.10s in my Z. I have driven a 68 Z with 4.56 screw. Don't know that 5.38 gears are even on the "edge". Might be over the top.

5.38 Gears!!!!! Holy cow that thing had to perform like it was shot out of a cannon from stop light to stop light!!
I love it!!

I sold a F85 drag car to Dan Reimer on this site - IIRC it had 5.13 gears. I would have to make the 1-2 shift before I made it out of my driveway.

My old 67 Z had factory 4.88 gears in it. It was a headrest seat car. Maybe thats why :D

That's about right lol!! Joel would do this thing when giving a ride along...he would stick a $20 bill to the dash. If the passenger could reach up and grab the bill, it was his. Some where I have a rear view pic, his slicks were huge, maybe 30" dia. and extending beyond the wheel openings.

My Z had 4.88s in it when I got it. Worked with the 140 cam but pain to drive very far. All back roads. Too many rpms for freeway!

Just catching up on a few threads around here and loved reading up on this one. Looks like a killer car and cannot wait to see more on it. It's such a great color too!

If I can share a funny story that recently happened to me, I recently advertised a nice original flat hood for sale that came off a 68 RS (Z-Clone) that I have owned a couple times. I got a call from a guy 4 weeks ago and he said he was doing a 67 RS Z and that he needed a clean original hood for it. He came, looked at it and was amazed how straight and how clean it was...and then asked, what did it come off of? I told him it was on a Grotto Blue 68 RS car that was painstakingly cloned into a Z c/w a ton of NOS parts back in the mid 80's. I then said the name of the guy that built it and he laughed, and said I'm that guy! The one who built the car you owned. I laughed because I had met him in 1990 but could hardly recognize him some 32 years later.

Anyways, he bought back the hood of the car he had built and sold some 36 years earlier that I had come to own twice. He then told me he recently bought a deep water blue 67 RS Z that he had chased for years and finally got, and now he's going to restore it. I believe it is a documented Canadian car from Vancouver, and is a deluxe interior, plenum air car. Hoping to see it someday as I really love deluxe interior cars with solid lifters.

Hope you are enjoying yours. Again, such a great color in TT.
