68 RS Tail Light Panel

Short of finding an NOS or original GM, any recommendations on aftermarket tail light panels that may work better than others? I'm using AMD full quarters on my resto and they fit very well on both sides, (guess I got lucky). When I mock up the tail ight panel, (A Dynacorn), it seems to be about 3/8ths to 1/2" too wide, thus the trunk lid has way too much of a gap on each side where the trunk lid, qtr panels corners and the tail light panel meet. Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

I have an AMD and it fit quite well, but then acquired an NOS, thinking it would fit better and it doesn't. They are quite equal for fit. The AMD has the advantage of having the reverse light holes already stamped in it, where the NOS does not. I sat on the fence for weeks trying to decide if I was going to use the NOS, but since it's here, I will use it, but getting the light holes in the correct place has me paralyzed again.
I'm going to sell the AMD, but shipping to NC would not make it worthwhile.

Thanks Mitch. I can get an AMD one from Eastwood and shipping is only $15 bucks, so that may be the way I'll go with it.

You can get a template for the backup lights to help you with the cutouts. I see them on Ebay for around $45. Thanks again.

Nice vid for help. The tip with the vise grips to pull the radius tight is very important and will help close up trunk lid gap. He already had the tail panel spot welded to the quarter, DON'T do that first. Use the vise grips to pull those panels square and tight to each other first and then check gap. The sequence he did this in won't allow any quarter movement, it only pulls the tail panel out to meet the q-p.

Got the AMD panel today and semi, quasi mocked it up. I think it's gonna be a much better fit than the other one. One thing I did learn though, when replacing with full quarters including sail panels, clamp the rear filler panel to the quarter side lip and then work the tail panel in. Thanks for all the tips. I agree, just didn't want others to think welding the q-p to the t-p before pulling that tight was the right sequence to do that in.

Exactly, pull all the panels tight with clamps and drill screws, working from the front to the back for the best lid gap.
