Some very interesting cars in the bunch there. Would be nice to inspect some of those and possibly bid on them. Thanks for sharing.

I wonder if the numbers matching ls6 el Camino is the original drivetrain or “numbers matching” as the ad says. That’s a big money car if born with.

Have been watching this auction, its 3 hours away, inspection date starts 6/10, I like the LS6 Elcamino and a friend interested in Ls6 Chevelle. Question on the Chevelle, door panels and steering say Malibu, the seller said thats the way it was ordered per the build sheet. Rick was a LS6 able to be ordered with Malibu interior? If we go look and see all the build sheets, vin. tags and stamps, I cant tell if real or fake. Will be interesting, prices seem to be getting bid up early in the auction.

Well, nobody "ordered" a 70 Chevelle SS454 specifying that the interior emblems were to say Malibu, but I'm pretty certain that some of them came that way. I'll let the 70 experts elaborate.

In regards to the "malibu" emblem question. I have seen a couple fairly early build LS6 cars in person with the malibu door panel emblems. So dont let that alone be a deal killer. It did happen.
The 67 El Camino looks nice.
I like the black 57. Wonder how hard it would be to bring it back to a driver?

Most all LS5 and LS6 came with "Malibu" door panel emblems. On the Z15 package it did not denote the door panel emblem on the build sheet so most received Malibu emblems. Some plants like Baltimore had "SS". As far as the horn shroud having "Malibu" I have never seen that. All "SS" had "SS" horn shroud emblems.
That is a very late build Coupe. End of July. As far as the El Camino it is a last week of February with the hocky stick style smog tube.....
Would definitely like to see both of these in person.

----Red Alert's door emblems were Malibu. It was an early December built Baltimore car! Most all the LS6's I have seen had Malibu door panels....Bill S

I know of a LS5 with the Malibu emblems. When I first saw it I thought that was odd

Chevelle build sheet.

It is common knowledge in the Chevelle world that most (454) cars were delivered with the Malibu door emblems simply because the B22 code was not listed on the buildsheet. An astute assembly line worker would often times catch it and would put the SS door panels on the car. Baltimore more often than not had the correct SS emblems whereas it was a crap shoot at the other plants however I do not believe I have ever seen a Kansas LS6 with SS door emblems.
Another late LS-6 assembly with an R-89W battery.

Is anyone here planning to go inspect any of these cars? I have interest in the 2 1970 Camaros however I am struggling to find time time in my schedule. Since these are both LA cars I would like to have them inspected before bidding. I will certainly be willing to compensate someone for their time and expenses.
Thank you,

About 30 years ago I bought a silver copo camaro out of Nebraska and the man I bought it from also owned a El Camino LS6 same colors as this one. My guess is its the same truck. It was real

Watch the Pace Car Convertible video, the guy rips the front spoiler off driving it out of the parking space and when it pulls it back in.

Looks like the passenger side of the spoiler was already detached before he ever moved the car. Probably from driving it in and out of that spot.
Is that white paint on the LH tail pipe?

----I don't have Chevelle numbers. What would CRV translate to? I did notice that the R was not in the gang when it was stamped, but, L16, I think you nailed it! Is there a chance the V was a mis-stamp at Tonawanda?.....Bill S

CRR LS6 auto, CRV LS6 4-speed

Maybe in this case the guy stamping the engine made a mistake and stamped the R over the V.
I just cant see why anyone would do this otherwise.

Nevertheless, all these years later, it serves to raise suspicion for anal guys like us.....especially when there's lots of $$$$ involved.
I agree Bill. But why would you restamp a legit LS6 (four speed) block to show an LS6 auto? Just makes no sense.
Although, let's face it, there is no shortage of stupidity in this hobby. I am thinking of the guy who cloned a 69 COPO Camaro into a Z/28!!!
What about the first time you saw a "factory grind out" restamp? First one I saw, I dismissed as a hack job by some Bubba.

I'm no stamp expert by any means but nobody in their right mind would try to re-stamp CRV 4 speed block into a CRR automatic block IMO. And the KC stamp looks legit to me since it has all the "tells" I know of for a KC car. For the kind of money these cars bring why would anyone buy one without Rick or Chris to authenticating it first?

The car in question, the blue LS6 Chevelle coupe, is an automatic. If it's indeed the original engine that was incorrectly stamped at Tonawanda, not hard to believe that someone over the years made a misguided attempt to 'correct' that error. Would have raised less suspicion to just leave it as it was, IMO.

Rather than someone over-stamping that letter years later, seems more likely to me that either
(A) it was mistamped at Tonawanda and corrected at Tonawanda before shipping to KC, or
(B) it was correctly stamped at Tonawanda as initially built (as a manual engine), but for some reason was changed to an automatic before going into a car (either changed at Tonawanda before shipping, or changed at KC after it got there), and that letter got over-stamped then. July 2 is very late in the production year, so maybe they checked orders vs. inventory and had to change one or more manual motors to AT motors to meet the remaining supply needs?

Auctions have ended. Big numbers on a few of the cars!
Do they report their auction results anywhere?
All I'm seeing is promoting future auctions.

Me as well. I don’t need any tractors but I sure would like to know what the LS-6 El Camino and Chevelle sold for.

At Flint Assembly (at least on the frame line) the correct repair was to "X" out the offending character and then hand stamp the correct digit or letter in that proximity. No overstamping (and never any grinding).
Usually there was not just one vehicle involved. In the case of getting the VINs out of sequence you would have a number of vehicles stamped wrong before someone would notice, which would require dispatching your repair man (or "Quality Man", the foreman's right hand man) to determine the scope of the issue and work his way back with hammer and punch set in hand, all while the line kept running.

I was watching the sale of the Boss 429 online and there were two bidders from Nebraska running it up and occasionally one from Iowa. I've seen other estate auctions where 2 siblings run a vehicle up into the stratosphere in order to win the auction. Not saying that's what happened here, but it's a possibility given the bidder's locations.

It was my guess that it was a family member running up the Boss 429 Mustang. They had settlement money to spend. I was hoping to get the 69 Impala hardtop but it went well beyond what I thought was comfortable. If the video of it running didn't make you want it, you are dead inside.

I wonder if there wasn't some legal requirement that the cars be sold as part of the estate settlement and the proceeds distributed to the heirs. Then, if an heir bids up the car they end up with at least a percentage of the money spent.

I'm thinking the '70 Z28 was pretty expensive, even in today's market. Nice to see the Gen 2's getting some recognition, but over 90K seems pricey.
