Sad time for sure.

At MCACN 2019 a Norwood retiree who was working there at the time mentioned that the ultimate insult was that the portable, gas powered crusher was powered by a Ford 6 cylinder engine!

What a waste. Why didn't they just finish them and send them to dealers at reduced cost. :bs:

I think it had something to do with not meeting federal safety standards set for the 1973 model year

Oh, yeah, '73 had to have those ugly impact bumpers.
Still could have sold them as the '72 models they were.

Not necessarily.

I didn't psyche through the timing here but the Federal Government has restrictions on what model year a vehicle can be labeled.

The '71 GT-37 fell into that same category and as a result there were 50 cars built and designated "70 and a half" model year vehicles.

When we did the 2002 Escalade we started production on Jan 2, 2001 for an early introduction and ran through the normal timing of fall of 2002. The restriction that drove that was that we could only have "one Jan 1" within a given model year.

That Photo is from my Book "Echoes of Norwood".

I like the 73 front impact bars on the full bumper cars. Also the 73 RS front end did not change the outside appearance from the 1970 RS, although GM added a few (11) extra support bars to get the 73 RS approved to sell the car.
