Notice that the promo picture for the 1973 SD-455 Trans Am is not a 1973 Firebird. Wrong grille and appears to have the wrong interior pattern for a '73.
Cool stuff though, thanks for sharing.

Not the first time Pontiac has done that. There are a handful of promo photos of this "1971" GTO. But it's really a 1970 with the 1971 front end.

Okay……a 1971 and 1970 GTO are basically the same except for the front clip. The only difference on the ‘71 I recall are a rear bumper with notches for bumper guards, seat upholstery, door panels, dash bezel and optional honeycomb wheels.

You also got the body colored adjustable mirrors on the GTO when you ordered the dual mirrors:

1970: Chrome non-adjustable (from inside the car) - as seen in the photo

Same model. Same car. And I think (???) this color was not available in 1971. Please someone correct me if I am wrong

Correct. I lightened the shadows and you can see the honeycomb pattern of a 1972 grille.

They are supposed to be the new for 1971 Honeycomb wheels:

Remember - the ads/brochures have to be completed before production actually starts.
I've only seen those wheels once - on a 1970 GTO show car Pontiac built:

These photos - the TA and the GTO - they were given to dealers to show them the new models before they hit the showroom floor. And as we've seen - they are cars cobbled together then photographed.
