What is the best way to remove rattle can spatter paint from a trunk? Thinking about getting the trunk redone correctly on my 69 Z but figure all that spray bomb paint needs to come off first. Thanks for any input.

If it's spray bomb, it will probably come off with lacquer thinner and a rag. Well actually, a bunch of rags.

Think seriously about taking some plastic and tape a create a curtain to the interior. The lacquer thinner smell can get into the upholstery. Keep a fan going too. Those fumes can settle in the bottom of the trunk.

----Some splatter cans are water based and water will help disolve the paint. I learned this ith a car I did quite a while ago. I pulled up the floor mat and the paint had curdled. Maybe worth a try!....Bill S

Both Grady and I have survivor Chevelles that were rattle-can painted with water based spatter paint. Grady, I believe, used Spray-9 to remove the rattle-can paint with excellent success. I used a heavy duty cleaner as well and most of my trunk's original paint was still there and in great shape. Whatever GM used to paint these trunks was very durable.

I’m in the same situation with a survivor that has rattle can spatter in the trunk. I’ve used Spray-9 but it doesn’t seem to soften the rattle can spatter. Do you have immediate results, or have to soak it somehow? What heavy duty cleaner did you use? Thanks!

I’m pretty sure I used TSP. Results were not immediate. I used a garden sprayer to keep soaking whatever section I was working on and a nylon bristle brush to scrub away the rattle paint. It took 8 hours to do the trunk. It wasn’t fun, but the results were worth it.
