You buy a rolling extension of your manhood!:hmmm: Yes, with only about seven months left in my 40s, I figured it was time to venture into the unknown aspect of the classics for me: English Iron. I’ve had/have a Ferrari, BMW, Porsche, but nothing from across the North side of the pond, and what better way to satisfy that desire than a classic E-Type?:biggthumpup: Yes, I could have bought something nice and reliable, but what fun is that?

Through a contact I have with my 507, I snatched this one up. 1968 Jaguar XKE featuring a 4.2 litre big six, three SU carburetors, and an electrical system that even makes its manufacturer cringe. Fortunately even when broken down on the side of the road, the “stop you in your tracks” loos that make the womenfolk weak in the knees :laugh: still make you look cool waiting for the tow truck to arrive. :hmmm: It’s the ultimate icon of the 60s British Invasion!!!

It rolled off the trailer and right into the shop for a few much needed repairs. A once over on the car shows zero rust (an extreme rarity) and an overall clean car. Wiring? Totally different story but lights and gauges worked so that's all I could really ask for.

Ready removed the bonnet and do some metal work on the hinge area causing the fitment issues. That'll get mounted today. A new exhaust is coming too. Might have to throw a quick paint job on this in BRG or some other. Not a fan of the resale red. The original color is Willow Green.

Are you going to get the paintless dent guy over for that passenger side door ding? I was amazed at what they can do. Two weeks ago my son's Camaro got three divots completely removed. They were a similar size to what you have. And they were right on the sharp body lines. One on the quarter and one one each door. Without even getting behind the panels, the guy was able to get them all completely out by working the painted surface by using glued on tabs. It was well worth the $290. Simply an amazing talent.

Couldn't stand myself, so the other morning I ripped the exhaust out and installed a nice new system. Wondering why it was sounding bad, I discovered the top of one muffler was basically a screen, and the other was connected to the head pipe with a Dr. Pepper can.:bs:

Hood is all adjusted and latches now along with a great sounding exhaust. A few odds and ends to do, but other than that, it stays like this until the 507 is done!

Well, let's see. Sadly, I decided I better replace the goofy switch panel the previous owner installed at some point, with a correct one, Aaaaaaand then the interior, wiring, and dash came flying out.:hmmm: I'm not sure what exactly happened. Alls I know is an entire new wiring harness kit, correct switches, relays, and a bunch of other things are showing up next week. :biggthumpup:

:smile: I have a hard time keeping track of my projects too. Middle of the night is the best time to go out in the shop and do what you are thinking about while it's fresh. By morning, I've already forgotten what I was doing.
This is a true story, I ran a repair business from my home garage in the 70's. No internet or "google" to look up help. More than once, I would finally get tired of trying things and would go to bed and wake up at 1-3 am with a new idea and go out in the garage and do that and many times it worked.

Work continues on the 507 despite this tangential deviation!:biggthumpup: A few hours here, a few hours there, and apparently I've also been tasked with building a "mini-horse" trailer next month too. Anything else?:hmmm: Next up on the 507 is top frame final fitment and I need to get it back out to spray the high build primer on it. Door shell inner structure will follow after that.

Now I have a stock looking panel again and Lucas, the English Prince of Darkness Electrical Demon, is safely tucked into new wiring so he should be contained until the next victim, er, owner, gets the car!:smile:

I also replaced the transmission fluid with Redline MT-90 which is what the Jag guys swear by, apparently, so smoother shifts. In final fluid flushing fortitude, I replaced the canister oil filter with a spin on adapter.

Just a few minor things to redo (carpet, button the interior back up) and I’ll be back on the road. That’s enough Jag right now. Time to get back on the 507!!!!:biggthumpup:

great thread, great car, always wanted one of these.
My neighbor is helping his friend on the coupe version they bought in pieces on the east coast and brought it back to Chicago. These are such cool looking rides.
I had 2 TR7s back in the day and they were nothing but electrical nightmares. The carbs kept me busy enough (had to change the damper oil viscosity based on the season temps).
You are dam lucky to have that ride.

They drive pretty nice. They have a good weight to them and seem to float down the road. I’m hoping no electrical gremlins rear their heads and don’t think they will since everything is new. I also replaced the gas tank and added the spin on oil filter conversion ditching the canister style original. :biggthumpup:
