That is a hell of a Survivor. Great options and colors, too. I’m surprised I never heard-of or saw this car, as it’s local to me (and appears to always have been).

It’s been on my BaT watch list.
The walk around video with the perfect appropriate song is really nice!
I sure hope whoever gets this car leaves it as is. “Preservation” is a must.
Grant, thanks for loading this auction of a cool GTO Survivor on the Yenko site.

I was curious about the "optional" 3-speed manual transmission since it comes standard with a 3-speed manual floor mounted with Hurst shifter. After some digging, this brochure states that it was an option available beginning March 1st of '65, same week as this car was built. Looks to have slightly different ratios and is fully synchromesh. I can't imagine many were ordered with this over the standard 3-speed.

What an awesome car. 3 speed with factory air?? Hen's teeth.
It would be interesting to learn why a guy that lived in Brookfield went to a Pontiac dealer in Elmhurst to order the car. Probably 3 or 4 dealerships closer to Brookfield than Elmhurst.

Without a doubt a very cool Survivor, but the seller is not completely forthright.
He has done a very nice job answering questions and providing photos.
At 90,000+ miles in the Midwest it shows what can happen to a car.
I lived my first 24 years in Springfield Illinois so I know.
I have several photos of this car in my files before the family parted with it that shows significant rust issues.
Obviously a patch panel was installed on the lower LH fender that the seller has not mentioned on BaT. The LH inside kick panel is in the trunk probably for inspection reasons.
Plus that area at the upper rear LH quarter panel is very concerning. These areas lead me to believe there’s more rust.
I’d like to see the trunk floor in this car.
Besides the patch panel the trunk weatherstripping has been replaced along with outside mirror, shifter boot, etc.
Like I said, awesome ‘65 GTO, but ……

I spoke to the seller as I questioned the body due to the rust hole on the inner wheel house. Here is the response I got........
"Hi,
We had the car dry ice cleaned and removed all the factory undercoating.
It revealed the still shiny floor pans that hadn’t been seen since 1965.
The wheel wells were the same revealing the original paint.
The rear wells had a little chipping where rocks or debris had penetrated the undercoating but there
really was no real rotting or rust, Just one tiny hole on the drivers side rear wheel well.
It was treated with Ospho to protect the metal and left alone.
After removing the undercoating on the frame there were a few spots that left exposed metal and it was touched up with GM undercarriage paint.
The exterior paint is original and I’ve tested all the areas on the car with paint meter and it’s pretty thin..
Averaging 2.5 mil to 3.5mil."
To your point Chris, he's not being as transparent as one would like to see. I was going to make the trip to look at the car as it's in northern IL. Once the bids rocketed to the neighborhood, I was not going to make the trip. I suspect the car would not MIL out as indicated

Post the pics and info on BaT.
It’s tempting, but I just can’t get involved. Not my duty.
I have loaded my information and photos here on the Yenko site along with the PY (Performance Years) site just to notify these members.
If someone else wants to enlighten the BaT auction I’m fine with it.
Chris.

There is no way a car could have survived local conditions, in an unheated garage, and not have some rust.
In my opinion, those photos of the lower left fender show not only rust, but that prior rust was already repaired there. Looks like tiger hair and Bondo to me. Typical Chicago issues.
The auction photos are pretty suspicious. Photograph a dark car on an overcast day, and don't illuminate the common rust areas any buyer would want to see cleanly?
