Is this the date code stamp on an old style Cragar SS wheel?

Thanks,

Interesting how they are the GT style but are SS in 64, you had a option, and I have these around 40 years?

This pic is another set I have. You see the same “16”” as is in the first pic but the stamped five digits are all numerals.
In the first pic some of them are letters. I would assume the 31283 would mean March 12th 1983 but I don’t understand the one with letters in the group.

Thanks,

The #'s on the center cast portion are the original copyright date and later, manufacturing revision date.

The date the rims were actually made is stamped on the inside of the rim hoop. Best way to describe this would be the area an inner tube would touch.

Original Cragar date codes were stamped. Later ones (1980's early 1990's) I have seen NOS were in black ink and some were stamped. No ryme or reason. I believe Cragar has gone back to stamping.

Could this possibly be the 312th day of 1983….? Or, are there other examples that prove differently? For example, of it was stamped 102083…..then I could see that as October 20th 1983. I’m just looking at it in a different way……. :beers:

This is a NOS 15x8 i have. Found this picture I forgot about having. Pretty clear about this date.
Zoom in on this pic and you see Mexico Marco. All the wheels I have say that. Yea I understand probably made in Mexico but what’s Marco?

Date codes are stamped, either by being punched or ink stamped into the hoop. The embossed numbers on the back of the spokes are copyright info. Depending on the year of the wheel, will determine where it was manufactured. Some say Mexico, some say USA, some say Firestone. Don’t be fooled into thinking you have a 1964 wheel due to the numbers that are embossed/cast on the backside of the spider/spokes…many do think that, but it isn’t so.

Marca is Spanish for Mark. Could be Marca Reg is Spanish for Registration Mark L 414
11 86 1 could mean the rim was rolled on November 1, 1986, and the assembly was completed on Feb 13, 1987.
