Can anyone tell me what this air cleaner base is from. Vent tube starts at 1" and tapers down to 3/4". Tube exits about the 10-11 o'clock position. I was going to eliminate the tube to make it work on something but if that's a bad idea I can try and find another base. Thanks

I believe this is off a 1969 Corvette 427 / 390 car.

Would that base have been used with a black lid?....Thanks, Joe

I needed a base and both needed modified to work. I think the other base I have is from a repop cowl induction air cleaner. I guess I won't use this one. I'm not sure what lid what have been used with it.

That base is the last open element air filter Chevy used. It fits a one year only 1973 Z28. The odd tube angle is for clearance of the EGR valve.

The fact that it tapers down to a 3/4 inch tube makes a big difference. Most all others have a full one inch tube.

Would a 1973 open element Chevrolet base have a flat bottom? After 1970 most I saw had a ridge going around the outside.

It has a ridge to retain the element.

I'm talking about the bottom surface looking up. Prior to 1970 the surface was flat, all over the counter bases after that had a "Rib" around the base indicating it was a later design. the 1966 427/425 original air cleaner I had was a base that was flat with no rib going around the diameter, they all had a ridge to keep the air filter element (A212CW) in place. The same goes for the Cowl Induction Bases for 1969 going forward. but Hey, that's what I remember having had many over the years and sold both types.

No rib on the 73 base.
