Hey Folks,

I have been looking for a 499 distributor and located one. The distributor is dated exactly the same as the block stamp. Do you think that's ok or should I keep looking for an earlier date? This pic look legit? Thanks!

More info on my motor:

Heads - late Feb 69
Intake - 3/3
Block cast - 3/6
Block stamp - 3/11

This distributor is 3/11.

Dated components generally are a month or more behind the assembly date of the engine. Cast date of the block may vary wider...in your case the dates are close. My sense is the date should be earlier...the distributor gurus on the site know the 'real dates'. All of the bolt-ons were generally gang run....therefore common dates.

I would look for 'good dates' via PM with the experts...

What's the build date of the car? You can email me at the address (Camaro Data) in my sig.

Impossible. The distributor date has to be before the engine assembly date. The distributor has to be shipped to the engine plant (because the beaming technology was inconsistent back then).

Just curious on everyone’s thoughts on the stampings on that distributor? Is it a known date? I’m just trying to educate myself. Thanks, Rob
