I hate to ask, but I am close to buying a restored alternator for $900 for my 68z. But I can not find the going rate really for these things. Checked eBay (nothing), but for 69 it seems some want $1300 for a restored one with dings and marks.

I may still buy it tonight or tomorrow, as I am supposed to call the guy back. Any input is appreciated. Odds are the seller knows the market. Hopefully the 70z alternator on the car has some value to ease the pain.

thanks,
-bob

I paid $1100 6 years ago from a reputable SYC member, fully rebuilt and ready to bolt on.

Thanks, that's great feedback. After I posted this, I looked at past listing in the classifieds here and they are over $1000.

And on top of it, they are not easy to find. And I am now missing the hard to find bracket that mounts it (has a bend or offset in it).

Thank god I have the fan/clutch, radiator, original distributor.

I’m sure you know how many re-stamped rare alternators are out there. Please ensure it’s real before you spend that kind of money !!!!!
