View Full Version : 69 Camaro Base Coupe Wanted
After lurking the site for years and being a member over a year, I'm enlisting help from the member base of SCR in finding the ideal car I’m after as I see a consistently higher quality of cars and genuine, honest and trustworthy members/sellers on SCR. I'm looking to purchase another cruiser that I can take out on a sunny weekend - something that isn't a performance variant, is low maintenance and simple/original. To this end, I’m searching for a base 69 Camaro coupe. My short list of what I’m looking for is:
69 Camaro coupes only
Original 327/307 (base) car. May even consider a 6 cylinder.
Completely original, not modified in any way. This means cars wearing their correct exterior/interior (as denoted on cowl tag), correct driveline (numbers matching not essential but correct OEM replacement with correct parts ok), etc.
Restored, driver or survivor.
No projects, no rust buckets, no slap together restos.
Please drop me a message if you’ve got a base 69 I’d be interested in. Before anyone asks - no, I’m not turning this into a COPO clone and whatever I purchase will need to be and remain 100% original.
For transparency sake, I'm located in Western Australia. Happy to consider all cars across the US but obviously the closer to CA, the better (where the car will be shipped out of).
Posting up three pictures as good examples... and just because who doesn't like looking at 69 Camaros...

Good luck on your search. Not to Hijack your thread but I like that Dusk blue too ( Middle picture )

Thanks! I’m sure you can tell I have an affinity for factory shades of blue. Dusk Blue is definitely my pick of the bunch for 69. I just wish an original dusk blue car was easier to find!

Thanks Jason. I did see that one recently however I’m currently restoring my 68 RS/SS 396 4 speed car and doing an almost full rebuild (excluding exterior body work and paint) on my 66 Nova so I’m definitely trying to avoid another project at the moment!
Whilst I’m able to find SS and Z28 cars in droves, it seems finding a nice original 307/327 powered car is a more difficult task these days! Slightly opening up the scope of my search to include LM1/L65 cars. Please message if you’ve got something of interest.
Still searching, no luck so far. Had one lead but the sellers communication (or lack thereof) put me off entirely.
New years bump! Still in the market. Almost pulled the trigger on one but it was sold out from under me.
Happy new year all :)

Apart from the colour change, it does. I’ve been keeping an eye on it. I assume like most other first gens on BaT it’ll land at crazy money we’ll see…
It's been a while but bumping this again. Still haven't found the ideal car.

Thanks for the post. I’m hoping to avoid body and paint work with any purchase I make so I’ll pass on this. Good luck with the sale.

Do you have a range of what you are looking to spend?

Up to 50K USD, which I figured would get me a nice base coupe but apparently not these days..

So only a base coupe, not something restored with modifications... crate engine, headers, wheels?

I'd consider something with easily reversible modifications or even a crate engine if it's done in a subtle way. Too many local registration hassles these days when trying to register a modified car which I'd like to avoid (that desire is already fulfilled in some of my other cars). Do you have something in mind?

I've checked around locally by me but the '69s are in the $60s and modified quite a bit.
Maybe one of our members would consider doing a little scouting for you.

The performance models and/or modified examples are a dime a dozen these days. A good original (or close to it) base coupe is a tough find. No rush though, I've been looking a while now and will continue until the right one appears.
Had a local lead that I finally got a chance to view this weekend however it unfortunately fell well short of expectations. Bumping this again.
Still looking for the right base coupe.
Opening the criteria slightly; I'll consider an L65/LM1, a 6 cylinder (230/250), or a nice survivor L48. The rest of the criteria still applies... completely original or close enough that I can return it to original, no projects, etc.

Tons of modified cars out. Finding one that hadn’t been messed with is certainly a tough task.

Very much so. It seems like 99% of the base coupes have long since been turned into something else. I figure I'm about 10 years late to the party :burnout:

I ran into Earl (MGM Classic Cars) at a show today. He said he's helped a few folks from AU get cars.

Thanks John. I see MGM's cars advertised from time to time.. Lots of modified examples. Not sure I'd be given a lead on the kind of car I'm after but I might reach out.

You could ask Earl. He said that it's hard to find a stock car but you could always reach out and discuss, he's buying and selling more cars than any of us.
Fair point. I've reached out. Let's see where it goes.
Small update, and by small, I mean so small there's nothing to tell... Still looking :)
Bump ahead of the Camaro Nationals this weekend. Still searching for the right base coupe.
Another update on this. Spent the last month following up with 3 potential leads. The first car had some major fluffing going on (quick respray with lots of overspray, painted over rust, etc). The second car had some scary 80s body work and lots of filler and the third car was sold from under me after I organised an inspection but before my inspector could view the car.
Needless to say, I’m still looking.

I saw this gem sitting in a driveway yesterday 20 minutes from my home here in PA, I have never seen this car before. I was not able to talk to anyone yesterday, but I will stop by later this week.

Wow! Please do. That looks like exactly the kind of car I'm after and Olympic Gold is a great colour for them.

Isn't there someone from this forum near the car who could look at and work a deal for you ?

Absolutely, and I've done similar in the past however it relies on a willing seller. Most are willing to work with you, some aren't. Lots of old school face-to-face guys out there and that's fair enough. Not too fussed with letting this one be as there's already a Frost Green LM1 survivor in the family :)

https://charlotte.craigslist.org/pts/d/waxhaw-1969-chevrolet-camaro-true/7780559888.html guy sounds like a prick. He is looking for a cash sale. My guess is he is flipping it and doesn't want to pay any tax.
Down south that is a 25 to 27k car. There are plenty of people in the Charlotte nc metro area on the board. Some one or i could look at it if you if you get serious.

Interesting seams with pop rivets and caterpillar welds right behind the bumper and at the quarter panel too. Not so much a "survivor" ??

I just watched a video on the Roadster Shops YouTube page titled, “Inside the Roadster Shop tour hotrod shop cars…”. At around the 32ish minute mark they show a base Camaro with yellow houndstooth interior that’s going to become a Survivor Series build. I’m sure there weren’t too many base Camaros with that interior. I’m sure it will be an amazing build but it’s a shame it wasn’t going to be restored to stock. I don’t know how to post a video clip.
Good luck with your search.
Cheers,
Marty

Marty, I’ve also tried to no avail to post a small video on the site. Says it to big, it’s a walk around of the 4K only about three minutes long.
32:40 mark. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFypsMj4oEQ

First base Camaro with yellow houndstooth I’ve come across. I’d be surprised if there were double digits of them built - certainly a rare car indeed. A shame it’s not going back to stock however if there was a company to do it justice as a modified car, the Roadster Shop are the right guys for the job.
On the search front, I’ve just purchased a really cool very original survivor 69 RS. I’ll create a new thread when it arrives from its journey around the globe. Surprisingly, I’ve lucked out even more because the car is optioned almost exactly how I would’ve ordered one. Only plans are to detail it, do whatever is needed to get it roadworthy and registered and cruise the wheels off it.

I stumbled upon this so I figured I’d share just in case someone else is looking for a base Camaro. Lots more photos in the listing. Appears like an honest car. I have no connection to it. It is listed on Facebook.

This is a nice one that I missed out on purchasing early in my search a few years back for 30K. Hopefully it sells to the right person and it continues to be appreciated for what it is. Still can't believe the asking prices for some cars these days though.
Side note, my 69 RS survivor (Lemans Blue exterior/Black interior, 307/TH350) is due to hit Australian shores mid-late December. It's already been an interesting journey uncovering some of the cars history and is still ongoing. I hope to share more once it arrives.
