Way cool...but at $750k I wouldn't consider it 'priced to sell'-

Nope, Rudolph only received one Z11 that Frank Sanders drove.

What's a realistic market value for this car? Or is it even possible to determine such a value, given the rarity.

Another one was bid to near $300K on BaT: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1963-chevrolet-impala-z11/

It is a very interesting car and I would love to own it but with that said I would consider the asking price more than 2 times the market value in today's world. I don't remember the sale price on Old Reliable but I don't think it was quite that much or maybe it was but that again was Old Reliable.

Yeah, duh, I forgot about the Terry Prince car that bid to $298K a while back on BaT.

I did a little reading up on Frank Sanders. He won the class at the 63 Winternationals with this car, coincidentally beating Terry Prince in the final. Post-race teardown found that he had an illegal camshaft, so NHRA disqualified him but would not award the win to Prince :hmmm: They also banned Sanders from all NHRA races in 1964, so he switched to running AHRA.

Here’s a few of the Don Fezell Z11 results from 2017 Mecum Kissimmee w/ Old Reliable Sale @ $ 577,500.
Also included is subject Rudolph/Sanders car @ the 2018 Mecum event w/ final bids @ $325.

Awesome, Pete, thanks so much for your detective work. At any rate, this is all a pretty strong indication that the Sanders car is currently being offered at a 'make-me-sell-it' price.

This doesn't really mean a lot but I had a difficult time selling my Shultz and Shriver car several years ago. It didn't have the race history to compare but was a really good car. I think it brought $145k finally. Awesome cars, I wish the seller good luck.

Heres’s a few early 60’s Newspaper clippings from when Frank Sanders was running the Z11.
Interesting too, he was the founder of S&S Headers also racing Warbirds as the last couple 1965 clippings.
Sadly, Frank was killed in 1990 when his Canadair T33 as pics below crashed during a training flight, click here for more…

All great stuff, Pete, thanks so much for posting :worship:

In two of those old newspaper articles, they refer to Arizona Rt. 87 as 'Hart Line Highway'. Never heard of that before, as far as I've known it's always been known as the 'Bee Line Highway', which is how I always thought the drag strip got its name.

Auction ended a few weeks back w/ No Sale, can’t blame a fella for sticking w/ his price or keeping such a car.
Merry Christmas from Rudolph:santa:Chevrolet!
