View Full Version : Red Racer Pedal Car
Have this listed on local CL. Thought about listing on Ebay to get some national exposure, but Ebay has become a REAL pain for sellers.
So, before I try that, figured I would post here. These are selling for crazy money on BAT; sometimes in excess of $8k believe it or not. Never seen another with all this paperwork. I also have a REAL Ferrari chrome prancing horse that I could be talked out of for an additional $100.
I can add pics of anything you want. Now that the grandkids are getting bigger, I just don't have a use for it, and would like to get it out of the downstairs game room.
Would rather not ship, but can get creative for member here.
PM me if interested.

That's pretty cool. If you could double your money and then some why would you not try selling it on BAT especially if yours is pristine and with paperwork?

Cool little car, Lynn. I wouldn't want to deal with shipping either, unless the buyer would pay for you to take it to a packer and ship it from there. For the price, someone will buy that to flip...

What a cool little car!! GLWTS I wouldn’t think it would last that long at that price.

Lynn,
Very cool piece. Those smiles are priceless!
Goodluck with sell.

One of my favorite pics. Their older brother Brian 10 years ago. Looks like he takes driving seriously (at 8 months old).
The above pic reminds me of an early pic of Enzo in an Alfa.
Believe it or not, I still have this. Sherri is bugging me (a rarity in this household) to get it out of the downstairs game room.
Just refreshed the CL post (had to add new pics). I didn't think about it, but should have offered to bring this to MCACN!!!
Decided to follow Rick's advice, and go with BAT. A crappy used one with worn tires and what i would consider a substandard repaint just brought $2,800. Wow. This one has all original scratch free powder coating and the tires have never been on concrete.
Only pedaled around on carpet. Will be selling no reserve. Also will provide a link once it is up. Of course, I am assuming they will accept my listing. If they do, I will get my daughter to take some much better pics.

If a member DOES want this, I will sell for $3k plus actual shipping (which is going to be a killer I know).
I have not sold much on Ebay in several years.
Looks like the seller fees are above 13% now. Is that correct?
Also looks like in addition, they charge over 13% fee based on the shipping cost as well. Is that correct? That makes no sense to me. If I sell a large item and it costs $300 to ship, then ebay charges me over $39 extra. So, I am actually losing money on the shipping.
BAT declined my request to list my Red Racer with no reserve. I discussed it with one of the guys there. He said that even though it was the nicest one they had ever looked at, and the ONLY one with all the paperwork I have, they already have several "in cue" and don't want to flood the market. So, back to square one.
I am not seeing a good reason to use Ebay. Difficult to market nation wide any other way. I think the days of the $7k to $8k Red Racers have passed. Enough have surfaced, that I just don't expect one of those unrealistic numbers.
eBay has been combining both the shipping price and the selling price for awhile now,and then charges the seller a total % on that total number.
Reason being is sellers before this, were trying to save themselves a significant amount of money,(can't say I blame them),by listing say a $300,or a much higher priced item for only $15 Buy It Now,(the amount it really cost to ship that part),then putting the shipping cost at $300.Ebay was only charging them a fee % on that $15 total selling price.
Ebay soon got wind of this, and basically said, that's it kids, the party is over.
So now they charge the fee% on the entire ball of wax price.

You would need to include the 13% in the shipping cost...$339 and still lose some because now the percentage is based on $339, not $300 but the loss isn't as big. Seems like a lose-lose for sellers now. There's always FB marketplace chaos as a venue...:rolleyes2:
Please say it isn't so. I don't even have a FB account.

Well, that eliminates marketplace then.
Have U considered your local craigslist?,especially for such a large item like yours.
I've had great success selling buying/selling on my CL,as they've had a resurgence since Fees and scams have become rampant on other selling venues.
Meet in person @ local Police station & exchange cash for item.
