Hello folks,

Is this member (Vortecpro) still around? Does anybody know him?

If so, can you please let him know there are a few members that are trying to get in touch with him regarding a 396/350 HP engine he sold this month.

I originally bought the engine and trans out of a D/SA Nova, I wanted the trans, and sold the engine to recoup my money, after the engine was delivered to me I noticed the block was filled, so the person who bought it will be getting their deposit back. I now have a NHRA D/SA 396, trust me it's nothing special, but its seems it was recently freshened up, but the heads are a disgrace, after inspection so they will be redone. Dyno sheets supplied with the engine showed 441 HP, which produced 11.20s ETs @ 3450 pounds, room for lots of improvement. After I go through the heads and dyno test the engine its will be for sale again as a NHRA D/SA 350 HP 396.

Engine was built to stock 1968 350 396 specs, although cam duration was 254 @ .050 hyd flat tappet, 460/480 lift. Factory intake with Q-Jet.

Thankyou.

I won't bug you with too many questions:

1. What head casting were you using (063 or 290)?
2. What was the compression ratio?

Its not any problem to answer your questions.

290 head castings
11.1 after NHRA blueprinting

You might be interested in the pump gas GM headed (390 castings) 396 that's sits next to the D/SA 396 that makes 547 HP with its reliable solid lifter camshaft.

Can you expand on this? When I told people back around 2005 that my 396 L78 (actually a standard bore 1972 402 block, built to L78 specs) made about 575Hp. People laughed and that it was BS. BUT when it went 10.40 thru the mufflers in a stock chassis 1969 Nova, with 9" slick, 4.56 and M21, they thought twice. I did run a home-ported 291 head, Holley Strip dominator intake and comp .660 solid roller.
