View Full Version : Ramp Truck
Not a big fan of the square body, but given how big the new pickups are, they don't look as clumsy as they used to (at least to me).
Looks like a really crappy paint job, and generally poor workmanship.
But the sum of the parts is probably worth the price of admission.
You would have to have a LOOOOONG garage to park it indoors.

The interior needs a lot of work. With a little work it may make a decent tow truck. It's only a little over an hour from me.

They do take a lot of shop space especially if you consider that I only use it s half dozen times a year.

They definitely take up some room ! When I built this garage, I made sure the ramp truck would fit. They are so dang handy to have around.

That black one is the bomb. Matt, yours is absolutely killer.

Little off topic but does your Mini split do a good job cooling your space? I’m still looking into these.
Thx, sorry for hijack!

Yes, they are, not a ramp, but same principal. I only use mine a few times a year too, but it is so nice to be able to pick up and move non-runners too. I hauled the Camaro to a PPG jobber to get a color read.

Much more convenient than using my all metal car hauler open trailer.
So Matt;
What is the scoop on your ramp truck. Modern power train? Vintage.
Did you piece it together, or buy it complete?
Would like to know the details.
Guess it is OK to hijack my own thread.

I bought a low mile c30 camper. I wanted original paint, no rust. I sent it to Hodges and they did the bed for me.
I built a 454 for it, dressed it up kinda like a 68 l78 with the brackets and deep groove pulleys etc. put a gear vendors overdrive behind the sm465 trans.
It seems to work very well. Floats down the road with the long wheel base

Since we talking about trucks, check out this truck that was custom built to carry luggage off of a ship, truck is on FB marketplace for $16K and there are a few articles out there about it:
