2 post lift recommendations

It's time to purchase a 2 post lift for my shop. I'm looking at 9000 lb overhead lifts. I see several listed for around $2100 to $2500. Atlas, Tuxedo, Racer Direct, Nationwide. I did a search on this sight but didn't get much results. What are you using and how do you like it?

I have a Worth Equipment 7000lb floor plate model.

Quality of the lift is great, and it's made in USA.
I bought it used, so it was about half price of new.
I use it almost daily for my own projects, not a business.

Floor plate style (cables run under floor plate instead of overhead) sucks for many reasons, but it's the best I could do with 10' ceiling.

Makes getting into and out of the vehicle so much easier.

Like Mitch said, it does make getting in and out of the vehicle a lot easier.

Asemmetrical lifts are handy , advantage to symmetrical is you can point vehicle either way if that is a consideration .

how many of you guys are scared of the 2 post lifts? i personally have seen some bad incidents of vehicles falling off of them. im sure a lot of it is because of improperly setting the arms. i have seen one that the anchor bolts pulled out of the concrete. ive seen numerous accidents on the internet.
i am building a good friend of mine a pretty big mancave, with lots of room for car storage, living area, kitchen 2 bathrooms, enormous area with shelves and racks for parts storage nice gathering area and around it we have put 7 of the roll around hydraulic lifts. you can add the hydraulic jack to lift the vehicle to remove the wheels/suspension. i personally feel a lot more comfortable with this type.

Curious, what brand did you get and are you happy with them?

I have an asymmetrical 10k Challenger. I view it as the best money I've spent for my shop (with the fridge running a close second:beers:)

I would not store a car on a 2 post for indefinite periods though. It's my opinion the body and chassis were designed to be stored on the suspension attachment points. That's of particular concern with the plastic cars.

I have personally witnessed three, two post drop-offs, the last one being my like new 2500 CC DuraMax, may it RIP. Totaled the lift too, lucky no one was killed.
Front drive cars, sure. Trucks, not for me.

Or any convert. Try opening convert doors on a two post.

I am looking into purchasing a 2 post lift in the near future also. A couple things stood out when doing the research……

(1) The good ones are ALI certified (Automotive Lift Institute)…..they cost more but they meet certain safety requirements.

(2) I was advised by a good friend, who has multiple lifts, to get the symmetrical versus the asymmetrical. I have a 2016 Silverado crew cab, Chevelle and dune buggy. My wife has an Equinox. Pretty much plan on just doing oil changes and tire rotation. I really don’t plan on needing to get in and out of the vehicle very much when on the lift.

I’ve also heard of possible safety issues with certain vehicles on an asymmetrical lift….but I guess that could be the operator too….lol

I bought a 4 post Atlas lift recently. What sold me was a local dealer and Atlas had far and away the best warranty of any lift I could find, 5 years on the lift, 3 years on the hydraulics and two years on electrical.

Not sure if they offer the same warranty on two post, but worth finding out.

I've got a 10K lb challenger lift. Best tool I've ever invested in. I had to buy some extra extensions for the lift arms to pick up my dually, but everything else works with no extensions, 3" or 6". Had to have 9" for the dually.

I'd recommend getting some screw jacks to place under the vehicle while you're working on it to stabilize it. it's a secondary precaution I take as you can never be too careful.
