Does anyone on here have an L89 Chevelle or El Camino or at least a copy of a real broadcast sheet? I Have a question about just one code in one box that I cannot qualify. I also have a question about the tune up decal code on the radiator support if it is original to the car. You can message or email me if you want to remain private. I very much appreciate the help.

----Rick,,,The only El Camino with the L89 option still existing is my old black one that is in the Brothers collection. When I owned it back in the mid 70's I had no idea about broadcast sheets and never looked for one. Charley may have found something and be able to help you out. Of course there are several L89 Chevelles, some owned by sight members and I'm sure someone will be able to help!....Bill S

Here’s the build sheet from the El Camino that sold on BAT in March. Hope this helps. I’m sure there are other member’s with examples of documentation that will assist you as well.
Cheers,
Marty

Thanks for that Bill. However, the broadcast sheet evidently lists the engine RPO code with a different letter (or in my case) than what the buildsheet lists. It is also only 1 letter not 2 and not a K(G) as in your case nor a K(I) for the HD clutch.

Rick,
Any chance you would share a photo of the broadcast sheet so we can see what you are talking about?
Thanks,
Marty
I have the original window sticker from my 69 L89, but no broadcast or build sheets. Not sure if that would help?

If you are talking about the engine "RPO" box (line 2 box 11 on a 69 body broadcast sheet), that corresponds to the code that the salesman was supposed to enter on the new car order form to order that optional engine. In 66-67 some of them were single-digit numbers and some were single letters, but all were a single character, and had nothing at all to do with the engine suffix code. Don't know if that remained true in 69.
If you can find a 1969 dealer ordering instructions book it would have that code in it. I have those books for 64-67 but I don't think I have a 69. I will double check this weekend though.

Thanks to all so far. I am a 70 guy and am not real well versed on the 69's. However, this guy is getting beat up by all the neigh sayers and I am the sort of guy that says, it is real until I can prove its not. For that reason I chose to try and help him authenticate his car. The original engine and transmission are gone so all we have is the broadcast sheet.
I cannot use any buildsheet samples as the engine codes are just what one would expect and in this case, do not correspond with the broadcast sheet. However, on the broadcast sheet for this car box 11 (engine RPO) is a Y. Dale McIntosh is so far the only person who has come up with anything and in his books claims that the Y 'could' denote L89 but I need some other proof, hense someone else with a Kansas L89 with the Y code in box 11. In addition, the code for the tune up decal is CP and not the normal CH. I am finding very little information on 669 cars so after many hours of research I am still coming up empty handed.

Great information Jeff and that alone may put some of this to rest. I do not have the 69 books so if anyone does I would greatly appreciate any help in that matter.

I sent some L89 info from my files. (Email)
A complete set of documents for the L89 El Camino in the Brothers collection.
(I was given this for our L89 display at MCACN, but Mecum posted it online for the auction years later so I figure it’s public now)
Broadcast sheet for a gold L89 Chevelle with green interior (I’ve never seen it in person)
Broadcast sheet for a Lemans Blue L89? (I can’t remember this one) Chevelle
Also a private document I think from the third L89 El Camino???
I think about W31’s all the time now… need to refresh my L89 brain!!!
Etc

While on the subject of L89s, were there any confirmed '68 El Camino's with the L89?

Confirmed via a 69 L89 broadcast sheet. :)

Unfortunately I don't have the "Ordering Procedures" section of the 1969 price schedules book (if there was such a section in the 69 book ... They had it in 67 and earlier, don't know about later).
It may or may not have any relevance to 69, but just in case, in 67 the Engine "OPT" box on the 67 broadcast sheet:
- 396/325 was a Q
- L34 was an S
- L78 was a T
Wonder why no R ??

I forgot I had this photo. Perhaps this helps?? This is a Baltimore built L89.
Let me know if you need any additional information on the car.

I've never seen that section in 69.
R wasn't used in 67 or 68. In 69, it was the L65.

Here’s the Buipdsheet for my Framingham built Black 1969 L89 Chevelle, but unfortunately I do not have the Broadcast sheet.
Thanks Ryan for pointing out this thread. I’ve taken a leave of absence for quite some time, but getting back in my groove.

That build sheet is a thing of beauty!!:worship:
Great car Dave.
It's fortunate that Framingham often left a build sheet on top of the tank. Could do without the glue, but hey, better than nothing. My Framingham Malibu had a 1/3rd build sheet under the back seat, the same 1/3rd in the driver's seat back (bench seat, found with boroscope) and a full sheet on the tank.

No RPO's on the Window Sticker. "375 HP Alum Head" Engine L78 and Heads L89 are not listed separately.....???

I can only comment on how it was done in Camaro-land. L89 is a heads-only add-on to L78. 68 price includes L78 & L89. In 69, the RPO's were listed separately.
