My all-time favorite car - EVER.
There is no other car in existence that looks more badass than the AG '55.

Nah, I like everything better that was changed for American Graffiti. Shiny black paint, chrome reverse, hood scoop, wing windows, finished look, etc.
My son and I are building a pair of '55 Chevy's, and both cars will be heavily influenced by the American Graffiti car.

The American Graffiti car was in both movies and believe was used in racing/ exterior shots scenes. The Two Lane Blacktop car is known as the interior car because the interior scene were filmed with that car. If you read the links I posted it is explained in detail.

That fact video hurt my brain. And they got the wrong the race car they ended up being the ag 55 had the l88 and m22 the camera car was a ls5 m22. The roll over car I can’t remember what motor but know it was a th400. At least that’s all I remember reading about it years ago when the camera car was found and restored
"You can never go fast enough"
Built a TLB clone with a bunch of the items Ruth added but kept the factory a-arm front. Same seats, early chevelle buckets, similar hood scoop, and the lexan sliders. Fun stuff. Car's gone to Iowa somewhere, but I kept the drivetrain....427 of course.
I may have to come for a visit, more to talk to R. Ruth...and wear my Glendale Speed Shop shirt!
Newsome is the guy that Finch sold the AG car to I believe, and he added a bunch of stuff that nobody liked but him. Glad he sold it.
Walt Bailey did a much better job, as good as it gets really, to the TLB camera car. He even got James Taylor to sit in it at a show, very cool indeed!
Just watched the "fact" video.....was that an AI narrator? Made me laugh. Got several things wrong, but I'll just focus on the "rollover" car in AG, which was pulled from the wrecking yard, never used in TLB, and was returned to the wrecking yard after filming.

Love that scene, "396 block?".... "454"
Glendale Speed Center, not Shop....my bad.
Frieberger did a very cool chronical video of his stomping grounds in CA, where he street raced, and just hung out...kind of a then and now film. He came across the Glendale Speed center building, still standing, and gives a backstory of how this tee-shirt came to be. Fun stuff.

That’s funny because I was just looking at this post by Freiburger about Glendale speed center:

Very good guy; I bump into him often around here and last month he was cleaning out his garage at the Long Beach swap meet.
I bought a few things, just because you have to, don't you?!
"F-Bomb".... hah!
Cheers all!

I have always loved 55 Post cars!
In fact, I'm now building a 210 post that I should have finished up real soon. A frame off restoration of an old throw back street machine! Black & white exterior with a stout little 500hp small block, a 5-Speed TKX with 2:87 1st gear, Moser 4:11 posi and lots of goodies all around. That and it's getting a black & white Delray interior to match. It should make for a real fun street car.
Double click the picture for a high def view of the car!!!

Hey...does anyone have an extra room blocked for MCACN. I tried getting a room last month but that proved to be a bit too late. Would love to go if I can pick up a room from someone?
Thanks...Graeme

I thought it would be cool to build a Pro Street version of the '55 and the GTO and do some match racing.

My '55. Not sure how it's going to turn out, but one thing for sure, it's going to have a clutch pedal and a 4 speed in it. I've got a 327 built for it for now, and I'm building a 12 bolt that I narrowed to fit. It's probably going to have a big block some day.

Links were very helpful Steve, cleared up some questions I had.
I remember when the fiberglass doors were discussed 20-25 years ago, pics of them made the rounds in the car magazines.

Straight-axle '55 in the BG was first blue/metallic silver "327" (everything was in quotes then) on Americans, then red/white on rallye's, as pictured - 454 LS-6 - surprised a few!

'55 show and tell...
Some here may remember my recent thread on cousin Paul's "Original Paint Original Owner '65 Corvette." Paul purchased this 150 post in HS, 1958. '60's style custom, including a Tijuana tuck and roll, done about 1962 while stationed in San Diego.
Since he has passed away recently I may be posting a FS thread at some point.

There are rooms available at the Leows and the aLoft, which are both just a few blocks away and also at the Sonesta, which is a few miles away with free shuttle service.
There MAY be one or two at the Hyatt.

The guy was apparently a local in the area where they filmed the scene (Athens, TN) , do some Google searching and you will find the story. A friend of the owner's or a person from the town posted on H.A.M.B. (?) maybe about it.
From a member on H.A.M.B. : "In that last scene ,,at that old airport ,,,where he's racing that Black n White SS eL Camino ,,,the Owner / Driver of that eL Camino's name is "Spoolie" ,,,he's alive n well still living in Tennesee ,,he's a friend of a member on the Two Lane Blacktop Group Forum ,,
That was posted 14 years ago...Spoolie may not still be with us.
Below is Monte Hellman, the Director of TLB holding a photo that was taken with Spoolie's camera of the ElCo and the 55- story is here https://www.facebook.com/TLB55/posts/here-are-a-couple-of-images-from-the-previous-owner-walt-bailey-and-some-info-be/318449908325294/

This photo is from MCACN 2022. I didn’t get a photo of the board to recall if this was a recreation or real deal. Is this the same car we will see this year?
Thanks,

These two are Tributes, owned by our good friend Mark Pappas. We have Mark bringing the Coupe back for fun, and it will be in the awards/Vintage area along with yet another '55 that Richard Ruth was involved with recently.
This is in addition to the real Two Lane Blacktop and TLBT/American Graffiti '55's that will be featured, with Richard Ruth right between them in the "big" room.
