1969 camaro X44 possibly a Big Block car need help!

I purchased a 1969 camaro x44 that seemed to be plain but on further inspection. It has a factory big block heater core and the plate on the driver side. Before I looked into the car I sent it to a body shop to put lower quarters in but otherwise a pretty solid car. Is there a way to look up the vin to see if it's a yenko copo or zl1? I know there is no way I get lucky but the car is since been fitted with a small block and suspension modifications so I can really look into some of the other things. I thought it was weird hours after I bought the car he was offering to buy it for a lot more and even threatened legal action. The car is in the body shop now so I'll have to call him to get any other info. It's also a muncie 4 speed car.

Post some pictures of what it looked like when you bought it. Check for a firewall hole just above and on left side of firewall wiring harness block. Disc brake car? Members here can help you if you provide some more info. Look through the Rats Nest COPO thread in the COPO section of this site. I posted pics of all the key indicators from my X44 COPO.

I would also recommend grabbing a photo of the trim tag. Perhaps you mistyped the F as Garnet Red did not get brown vinyl tops. I’m sure it is supposed to be E for Parchment. Does it have a 12 bolt rear? Is the original radiator still in the car?
I hope this works out to be a real COPO.

You are right it was a E. Alpt of things have been changed on the car. Aftermarket disk brakes, radiator, Moser rearend.

Where are the hidden vins on these cars? When I run a vehicle history report the car comes backs as "1969 Chevrolet Camaro V8 Copo 9560 Series (zl1)" There is no way this is right but supposedly comes from NMVTIS.

Don't believe the vehicle history report, it's essentially a scam. If she other key data points look promising, order an NCRS report for it. It won't tell if it's a COPO, but it will show the selling dealer. There are several well-known high performance dealers.
Hidden vins are under the windshield base wiper panel on the passenger side, and the other is behind the blower motor on the firewall. The blower has to be removed to see it.

Since you removed the VIN, I have less info to work with.
But from the tag data, I'd say it's not a COPO.

The only big block installed in X44 were COPO's 9560 or 9561. I don't believe this was a COPO.

AC means it's definitely not a COPO 427.

Not needed. It has to be a small block with X44 and AC. And the tag data says it isn't COPO.

I've read they made big block cars with ac. I would probably agree it's not a copo but are you saying GM didn't make a x44 with a big block and AC? Kinda hard to belive since you could get any of these options added. How can I identify small block Ac firewall versus the big block AC firewall?

Yes, they made big block cars with A/C, but ALL of them would have been X66 or X22 cars. The ONLY big block car with and X44 tag would be a COPO. No COPO had A/C.

It is 100% certain that your car came with a small block. Period.

I only post this because guys are posting things about big blocks with AC, and i don't want you to get your hopes up thinking this car may have come with a big block. It didn't.

I suspect he has a shell and wants to be shown or told that the firewall opening for A/C is different between small and big block cars; the link Kurt posted above to CRG shows what it looks like but doesn't explicitly differentiate between BB & SB - I suspect, the stamped opening in the shell is common between the two, but will hope for some corroboration here... The firewall cutout is the same for all cars with ac, including 6 cylinder engines.

Yes, the firewall cutout is the same but the suitcase inner is different for BB for valve cover clearance.

I lied... Apologies.
The BB Camaro AC Suitcase outer half is also different. The angle off the firewall is different between SB & BB. I did not notice until I had the two pieces side by side.

Small block inner half in foreground, angled a little more towards the engine, BB inner half behind it.
