I was digging thru "stuff" on the shelves in the storage building, looking for left over '62 Impala parts to sell, and came across a loose distributor I have been looking for since I moved. It is the original distributor for my LS5 engine in the '66 Chevelle. I had a Mallory shutter wheel, electronic conversion on it for many years. Has a 526 CCW mechanical advance which I believe is still original. No clue where the vacuum advance went.
Build date seems rather early for a late January build engine ?
It's had '65 closed chamber heads on it since I bought the car in '73, so it's possible the O/O changed the distributor too.

That's a 1970 LS5 distributor Mitch and the earliest date I've seen on one.

Yep, forgot to mention it is a '70 LS5.
I have read mention of it, possibly, being for '70 L78 engines too ? Could be why it's an early build date and didn't get used in an L78 ?

I've had a couple of them. LS5 distributors, though they are not worth all that much are fairly hard to come by. Yours is definitely a legit stamp as well.

Dang, same date too.
Not looking to sell, just was happy to find it again. Rather certain the weights aren't original, as I had a re-curve kit in it. I should have it renewed, tuned and re-introduce it to the engine.
I still have the Mallory set up too, but I only seem to have half of the shutter wheel. No clue why they got separated and where it is. Hopefully, that will turn up in another box from moving.
