Anyone have ideas on this one? I am going to have to stop saying the market is softening if this happens again!

I’ve got a hot take-hear me out. I have a feeling that this auction was propelled by the strong current national “vibe” rather than say, alcohol, which is what we usually attribute this kind of aberration when it happens at BJ. If you read through all of the comments, there’s a palpable pushback from the spectators of this auction to the voices telling them why they’re foolish to bid too much on this flashy orange car. Many of them seem to resent the “elites” (aka name-checked Yenko.net!) trying to tell them that “Black Grilles Matter” and “No Smog/No Sale” so they shouldn’t waste their money.

My tongue is a little bit in my cheek with this analogy, but not too much. Read the comments and tell me it doesn’t feel different than most of the recent musclecar auctions on there. Certainly different than the hypercritical discourse on a comparative Shelby or C2 Corvette auction.

'Correct' or not, that car looked gorgeous and that's what drove the bidding. The seller, who is well known on this site, has some darn nice stuff that always brings good money, so that reputation means a lot too.

I wish I was the seller but with that said this is where two fools with to much free cash was bidding on this thing and got caught up in the moment. I sure wouldn't buy one like it and expect to pull such a number.

The winning bidder conceded to the 2nd place bidder earlier, then came back in during the final seconds with one more bid to win it.
The second place bidder should send him a thank you Christmas card. :)

The seller really does a great job and get some really nice cars. He lists a lot of cars here and they are all very nice.

You could buy a really beautiful, high horsepower bbc, Bloomington judged mid year corvette for that money but I guess to each their own.

The selling dealer buys only certain cars, invests in bringing them up to the next level, and takes excellent pictures. He certainly has a reputation for great cars.

Let’s see if lightning strikes twice
.....and it goes with the black grille surround instead of color matched.

Oh, it is selling with the black surround.

I am guessing the current owner gets quite a haircut on this one.

I can't imagine there is a second person willing to pay more than double what this car is worth to own it! Who ever bought this car for 260K is more than likely going to take a bath on this one....does he really think he's going to flip and make a profit after paying 260K???

You could buy a brand new C8 ZR1, have one of the fastest cars ever produced, and have money left over!!!

There are many things in this world that defy logic. This just happens to be one of them. It's already up to $150K...more dollars than sense!:hmmm:

I’m really interested to see what happens to the market in the next 5-10 years as this generation ages out of the hobby and a much smaller number of hobbyists are there and interested in purchasing a lot of cars. I personally think the dated resto mods are going to take a much harder hit than properly restored and pedigreed muscle cars. But I still wonder what the future holds.

I think the comments in the
listing mentions that the Seller/Recent Buyer is a Retired 82 year old "Medical Professional" who has Recent Health issues , and that's the reason the Cars for Sale ! only driven 150 miles since purchase...

I don't think that the current owner is thinking to flip for a profit, but we have to remember that it cost the current owner $260K on BaT (last fall) because another bidder was willing to pay $255K ...

And remember, the owner of the car today was out back then, then came back in to bid one more time to be the final winner.
Could be a heck of an opportunity for that 2nd place bidder from last fall,to now be the first place bidder at a much lower price.

Regarding resto-mods in the future, I think that they will remain worth a good deal of money just because if they're done right, you can drive them every day and use them as regular transportation. Last night at the soccer field there was a '67 Camaro convertible owned by one of the dads and even though it broke down (no spark issue), every kid that walked by was saying how cool it was and was excited about seeing it.

I never agreed with this belief. That 67 Camaro could be up and running again in a matter of minutes to at least get someone home. Is it super convenient? No. Is it as polished and comfy as something more modern? No. But it’s still a car, that can be used and fixed simply and usually cheaply.

But on the flip side: Let’s say that same Camaro had some LS conversion using a custom computer, with another custom computer running the overdrive auto transmission. If that has no spark you’re done, finished. Get it towed to a shop and pay some poor guy to spend hours diagnosing the custom wiring harness that some other guy did in his backyard shop. All because for some reason today people believe everything needs overdrive and fuel injection.

I drove my Hornet to work today. Tunnel Ram, 2 fours, 4 speed, 3.54 rear gear. It’s about an 80 mile round trip. Hopefully this summer I’ll drive it a bunch more. It gets 12mpg. It drove everyday in 1975, why can’t it be used today?
