I'm going to replace the fan belts on my LS6.
Can some tell me please what the Gates part #s are for these belts? or another quality brand would be okay.
I'm down in NZ and it can be difficult to source parts here.
Thanks in advance,
John

Year of car, cubic inch engine, transmission and engine options usually narrow down everything. Trying to look up a belt for the engine itself wont work.
Power steering? AC? Smog pump?

Obviously it's a 1970, 454 ci, power steering, no smog pump, AC on an LS6, I don't think so.
Thanks for your input.

Chevelle? El Camino? Transplanted engine into something else? The LS6 was also available in the Corvette in 1971 IIRC. I would think the A.I.M. would show the same belt for any other big block, but you would need to check.

----71 LS6 Corvettes had short water pumps so the belts would be different, I believe....Bill S

Since his picture shows a 1970 Chevelle, I would assume that is the car he needs a belt for.

Yes, it's for a 1970 LS6 Chevelle. Rick Nelson you out there?:headbang:
Hi John,how's your Summer going?
Sounds like you want a Big Block 1970 Alternator belt AND w/o SMOG too,as it wraps around just the crank, water pump and alternator pulley only.Original Part# for that is #3937789 & can be used on ALL 1970 LS-3,L-34,LS-5,L-78,LS-6 applications W/O SMOG.
Quanta sells this GM Restoration/factory correct looking belt as Part# 29B-602,but cross reference with other MFRs.that might have a different look. And I recommend whomever you buy from, call and ask them to confirm the overall length with you first before ordering,as they measure out at just over 46 inches with Deepgroove pulleys when on the car,(at least mine do when stretched.)
Anything longer is a Big Block SMOG PUMP (YE) Belt.
And Power Steering as you know is a separate belt run by the crank pulley only, and not powered by the Alt. belt.

Fortunately Chevrolet used a lot of the same belts across the production line and Quanta carrys alot of them. One of the belts for my 6 cylinder is also used on a Corvette, so there should be no issue finding the correct fitment for the big block.

Here are some sizes from GM parts catalogue that might help. 9782707 power steering belt, 3937790 fan and alternator, no listing for air pump.

I would NOT buy a Quanta belt if you plan on running the RPM's up on the car. IT WILL FLY OFF. If you have a NAPA store take the old belt in and match it up. I'm running a NAPA Gold with no issues.

I wouldn't recommend a Quanta unless you are never starting the engine... straight into the garbage,
