There's been a lot of great musical artists from the '60's and '70's passing in the last few years. So like many who grew up in that era it's got me thinking of the concerts I attended. My two great passions were cars and music. Here in Ottawa was the Capitol Theater,an old movie theater built in the 1920's.It sat around 1800 people and a lot of musical acts performed there back in the day.For around 6-7 bucks you got an up close seat to some great shows! I was fortunate enough to see Jimi Hendrix,The Who,Cream,Wilson Pickett,The Turtles,Tommy James and the Shondells,The Hollies,Ravi Shankar. We also had the Civic Center where I saw Sly and the Family Stone,The Boss,Billy Joel,Tom Petty,Bob Dylan,Dire Straits,George Thorogood,Huey Lewis,Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels. And one of my favs Stevie Ray Vaughan.Who have you seen?! To see the set lists of concerts you have been to check out www.setlist.fm

Almost all the concerts I have attended were while I was at college and the individual or group performed on campus: The Youngbloods at Sierra College in Rocklin, CA. Gary Puckett and the Union Gap, The 5th Dimension, The Guess Who, Neil Diamond at Idaho State University in Pocatello, ID. These would all have been in the early 1970's. At a car show at Cal Expo in Sacramento I saw Jan Berry (just himself and a band, but not Dean Torrance). I've seen my favorite group The Beach Boys (how could you not love a band that sang about girls, cars, and the beach) 8 times in person. The first time was in 1983 at Candlestick Park after a Giants game; to the best of my recollection all 3 Wilson brothers were there along with Al Jardine and Mike Love. I then saw them 3 times at Cal Expo, 3 times at South Shore Lake Tahoe, and the last time at Reno in 1996.

That must have been a great show! You caught Janis just before she left in October.I saw Tina in the mid '80's during her Private Dancer Tour.Saw Ike and his terrific band at Bluesfest 2001.Great show! It was a bit of a P.R.show also cause his band members were tossing "I LIKE IKE!" Tshirts out to the audience.Guess cause of the allgations that he abused Tina years ago.

Music and cars and loud car stereos made up my early years, well it still exists today! Ha!
Saw Alice Cooper in 74 when he was doing snakes, chopping off heads and lots of weird stuff! Saw Van Halen in 79 and as we all know Eddy was insane! Many more I could list but recently, April, I saw Sammy Hagar in Palm Springs California. He is still bringing it well into his 70s and have to give him credit he, Michael Anthony, and Joe Satriani were shredding and had a great time and I was with my oldest kid who’s in her 30s. It’s fun to enjoy the music. We listen to with our kids!

Famous places to listen to concerts or see concert in Detroit was Cobo Hall, and the Olympia. The Olympia was where the Red Wings played and I saw Gordie Howe. Lots of great memories.

We're lucky to live in the live music Capitol of the World, Austin, TX. This year we've seen Three Dog Night (only one dog left), Chicago, Rod Stewart, Heart, Tedeshi Trucks, Bob Schneider. We're going to see Chris Issac in July. We love Austin City Limits and we head there most every month. We've seen Santana, Janet Jackson, Kenny Logins, Robert Plant and many others last year. If the first generation of rock and rollers come to Austin, we will go see them.

Here we are at Austin City Limits, our favorite venue.

Ted Nugent and Kansas at a roller rink - his first solo record post Amboy Dukes. Ears were still ringing at Thanksgiving dinner the next day.

Aerosmith, Jeff Beck/Jan Hammer, and Rick Derringer - was about 200 out that day and the FD kindly turned the hoses on us after they put the fire out ...

Just heard of Brian Wilson's passing. First saw The Beach Boys locally in 1978, seems like they all toured through here in the '70s and '80s.

My big regret is never seeing Pink Floyd live, but Brit Floyd is a great experience. Dave D. post up that pic you have of the usual suspects from Peoria last year.

This weekend going for the third time to see "I Am He Said - A Neil Diamond Celebration" by The Killer Vee's, including four members of Bobby Vee's family. A great show.

Later this month seeing Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, looking forward to that, first time for me.

WOW!! You saw some great artists! Now our generation is dealing with the transition that our parents went through with their musical heroes. It's just part of life I guess. Brian Wilson just yesterday. So concerts I've been to? A lot! Do you want opening acts too?? My first was Chicago in 1969. I still have my ticket stub and program from that show. I’ve saved most of them, passes too. So let's see, Genesis Lamb Lies Down 1974 tour, Peter Frampton 1976, Deep Purple, Gentle Giant, Rainbow, Alvin Lee, Judas Priest, Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons, Gino Vannelli, Rolling Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Beach Boys, America, Jefferson Starship, Doobie Brothers, Styx, Robin Trower, Kansas, Pat Benetar, Saga, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, U2, Grateful Dead, Dixie Dreggs, Ted Nugent, Yes, Genesis (post Gabriel), Peter Gabriel, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Starz, Starcastle, Kiss, The James Gang, Dexys Midnight Runners, Angel, Lover Boy, Eddie Money, Van Halen, The Black Crowes, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Ozark Mountain Daredevils, Walter Egan, The Hooters, The Outlaws, Rush, Supertramp, Kansas, Heart, Jethro Tull. I probably forgot a few. Many I saw more than once over the years. Lots of great memories. I wish I had seen Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd back in the day.

Mine too. That was a beautiful venue I must say and good company. I am headed to Phoenix July 8th for my 7th Brit Floyd concert. My brother lives there and is going with so that should be a good time.

When I was in high school, one of my best friends uncle owned or worked for Shoun (spelling) Productions and we got free tickets to every concert that came to town. Aerosmith, REO, Ted Nugent, Nazareth, etc, etc. Never got to see Pink Floyd, Rush or some other favorites but who's complaining.

Elvis only performed 3 times outside of the U.S.In Toronto,Vancouver and here in Ottawa. He was supposed to perform in Montreal but the Catholic Church kicked up such a big fuss that the concert moved 120 East to here. The Church threatened ex communication to anyone who attended! My mother wasn't worried about that and she bought 4 tickets. She took me and my cousins Tommy and Elizabeth. The concert was at the Auditorium,an old hockey rink. All I remember was how loud the screaming was and Elvis' gold jacket! My mother told me that I covered my ears for most of the show.Apparently Elvis had a cheese sandwich and a carton of milk after the show.1957.

Who put on the most memorable, exciting show?

Oh, boy, good question. That might difficult to answer. Recently I saw David Gilmore. Probably the best lighting and Fx I've ever seen. Sounded great too!

Each show had their moments. Kiss with the pyro was pretty cool. That got me started with stage pryo. Grateful Dead was very colorful LOL!! I was grinning all night watching the crowd.

One show that was very cool was Emerson Lake and Palmer on the Brain Salad Surgery tour, mid 70's. It was the first tour with a quad PA system. Being an audio guy I loved it. It was an outdoor show at Rich Stadium in Buffalo. They were panning instruments all the way around the whole place. For those that were partaking in the herbal stuff it had to be mind twisting!

One other show that sticks out some was at the NY State fairgrounds Syracuse September 2, 1975, The Great American Music Fair. It was a mud-bath! There were all kinds of problems with that one. There's actually and article online about it.

https://www.syracuse.com/vintage/2016/09/throwback_thursday_the_great_a.html

Genesis and Rush always had a great show. I remember going to see Rush and thinking how the heck is Geddy going to sing, play bass AND keyboards at the same time. Insane to watch/hear and he didn't miss a beat.

Those big concerts in the 70's were nuts. Oh, yes Aerosmith on the Toys in the Attic tour. Great show! I pissed Steven Tyler off. I had my camera and I was up front in the center. At the time I was using a flash. At one point the roadies came near me and waited for me to take another picture. When I raised my camera they tried to grab it. At that point I was done taking pictures. I didn't want to lose my camera or get kicked out.

If you like a great blues show, go check out Joe Bonamassa. Awesome show and the keyboard player used to play with Stevie Ray Vaughn.

I saw the Who Summer/'68.Townsend smashed his guitar and Moon destroyed his drum kit! Saw them again during their Tommy Tour in 1969.And in 1982 when Kenny Jones was their drummer.
