I need to reinstall a column shift steering column back in to a 66 Chevelle, and can't figure out the correct way to get the shift indicator arm back into the dash. The part I am struggling with is the spring steel piece that is in the bottom slot of the column and goes around the column and up into the gauge cluster. It is the arm that moves when you shift the car into reverse or drive that has the small orange tip. If anyone knows of any videos or can point me in the right directions it would be great.

To prevent scratching the paint from the shift pointer and make for easier reinstall I remove the pointer and slide it back into place after the column is bolted into place. Good Luck!

How do you get it back in to place in the gauge cluster. I have turned and flipped and tried about everything I can to get it back into the gauge cluster correctly. I did remove it from the steering column thinking it would be easier, but now I can't get it back in the cluster oriented correctly.

Hmm, I don't remember any issues, but remove the three nuts supporting the column to the dash allowing it to drop a bit and the pointer should go in easily.

2 rods/nuts supporting the column of a '66. No knowledge of a difference in clearance between '66 and '67 lower dash panel.

You are correct Mitch, as usual my brain was thinking in '67 Chevelle terms, and the move to collapsible steering column... :beers:
