Nice '63 - seller indicates this one was repainted in lacquer back in 1977, and had a later body off restoration. Bidding is already at $100k with 9 days left in the auction.

Interesting stamp with a "S" in place of the leading "3".

My thoughts--

1) That stamp could possibly be real, but without a CCAS certificate, it's radioactive. If the car was restored in 1991, the state of the art on restamps wasn't what it is now, and I'd expect the rest of it to scream "restamp"

2) Had a front clip put on it at some time (this VIN should have 4 hood wedges).

3) Appears to have a complete OEM air cleaner, which is really nice.

At the current bid of $150K, it's still below what clones are bringing on BaT

----Not doubting your statement about the front clip, but can you give us an idea of when the wedge changes came about. All it would take is a quick look at the surround seams to verify. I've also seen only 2 wedges as well on unaltered noses....Bill S

Bill, the ranges for 0/4/2 wedges are in the judging manual, which I don’t have at home. But I’ll post that up on Monday.

What I know is that a car with VIN 9147 should have 4 wedges. I own 8574 (fuel coupe) and previously owned 9895 (340 coupe), and both had the original clip with 4 wedges.

The profile of the drip channel on this car looks like OEM fiberglass due to the very thin inner lip, which a one-piece clip and the current press-molded reproduction glass doesn’t have. So my guess is it had a surround or clip out on it with OEM parts. No pics of the underside of the hood, which could possibly help clarify whether it’s original or not.

Bill,

Here are the wedges for cars in this VIN range--

Another interesting factoid about the '63s. There's so much that's unique to the first year C2s. Reminds me of the '68 DT1 Yamaha, and how it's got tons of one offs that were later dropped or changed.
Also, that inner fender gutter lip and "flea bites" that occured because it's so frail, is a dead giveaway to factory panels.
