Over the weekend, I bought this killer 62. Born with drivetrain 327-340hp 4 speed, 4.11 car. I purchased the car out of a 49 year ownership. Roger bought this car out of Bloomington, IL in 1976 back when the car had 30k miles on it. It now currently has 43k miles on it. Roger commissioned a repaint on it's unhit body back in 2019. Original interior (with the exception of the carpets). Just a wonderful car, with a wonderful story, from a wonderful guy. Roger will turn 94 next month. I am going to put this car through the usual process that I do, but this one is going into the personal collection.
A special thank you to Nick (Supreme Deluxe) for running over and inspecting the car for me on short notice. Roger was getting action on the classified, and thus I was able to commit right away, and get Roger paid.

This is an ultra-nice 62. I could tell it was a gem in less than 3 minutes. I hung around for almost an hour talking Corvettes with Roger. Happy I could play a small part in Tim getting it.

Was the car originally delivered to a dealership in Bloomington, IL?

I spent the last day on the 62. Checking numbers, changing fluids, checking valve lash, adjusting steering box lash, adjusting brakes, setting timing, and laying in a tune that it seems to like.........

An of course, the best part!

There is some work ahead though. No good deed goes unpunished. 2nd gear is kinda crunchy (typical T10 BS), the throttle shaft bushings are kind tight, the Wonderbar is dead (I knew that), the clock is dead too (I knew that also).
I've got a good T10 guy (not everyone can get these right) and that will be a good time for a new clutch (chatters just a bit more than I'd like). I've got a punch list of some small items for the car that I'll be searching for such as.....
1. Nice survivor oil filter canister
2. Nice original / NOS dual window distributor cap
3. Nice original right side spark plug shield
In all, I'm thrilled with the car:smile:

Yesterday, I got the trans and clutch out of the 62. What a mess! I neglected to take a picture of it, but the top 3rd of the trans was undercoated along with the the rest of the car:crazy:
The pic of the shifter and trans tunnel should tell the story

After 3 hours of hand cleaner, diesel fuel, scraping, steam cleaning, rinse, wash, and repeat. It's cleaned up now. I have it packed up in the crate and it gets picked up tomorrow.

I have some serious plans for time behind the wheel of this car. With the 340hp and 4.11's, it is a F'n hoot to drive. Tom was able to get on the transmission right away and it sounds like he has the needed NOS parts in stock for it. The new clutch should be here tomorrow, and I can get that down to the machine shop to resurface the flywheel / balance the assembly.

Love it Tim. Great score and we're excited for your to enjoy some miles with it.
Nothing like a 340hp SBC with manual trans and 4.10s!!

Here is a progress pic from removing the undercoating. I am doing the trans tunnel, as so much of it won't accessible for dry ice blasting once it's all together. As you can see, there is a bunch of tedious removal yet to go.
I should have the transmission back tomorrow, and hopefully the clutch and flywheel by the end of the week.

----There must be a reason to undercoat a fiberglass car. Guessing to protect the frame, etc., but what a pain. Feel for yah! All that stuff on the shifter assembly couldn't have helped any attempt at any kind of speed shifting....Bill S
Good job, Tim, it looks great. They hit everything with undercoat on a fiberglass car on those that I've cleaned up. I have no idea why they did that other than the guy doing the undercoating had no idea what was fiberglass and what was not.

----This is the way a 62 should be be set up as far as I'm concerned. Love the wheel and tire combo. That puts your 62 over the top for me....Bill S

While the transmission took a bit longer than anticipated, it is done and on the way back. I should have it Monday. The blocker rings on 2nd and 3rd were toast, and the front bearing was not all to healthy. 2nd gear itself did not look too bad, but elected to replace it with an NOS unit. Surprisingly, the shafts were MINT! Tom expressed some concern over that if the car was used as intended. With a little luck, this should be back in service EOD Monday, or Tuesday morning.
I still see spots of undercoating:rolleyes2: I forgot how much Tom likes to use gasket sealer to dress the gaskets. At this point, what's a little more clean up work??
