Check this out. Just got word and pics of an Orange with black stripe 69 Motion Phase III GT vette that has just been restored. This car is beleived to be the one used in the BM magazine ads of the late 60's early 70's. The resto was overseen by Joel. The car has the Dodge fuel filler cap, single headlights and 3 slit taillights. Also, word is that this car will be up for sale very soon. The owner is located in the south east. Just thought some of you might want to know. Don't know any other details about the car, but it looks real nice.

There was a Motion Phase III Corvette on the cover of Sep. 1970 hi per cars magazine. I thought it was the same car but the one in the magazine looks red.

That is in fact the very same car. I also have the magazine. If you look at the article you will see that it has the dodge style fuel filler cap. Motion only made about a dozen phase III GT's and it is beleived only one with the dodge fuel cap.
The color is way off on the cover. That vette graced the cover of dozens of magazines in the early 70'S.

I wonder why they restored it incorrectly with that extra stripe around the hood scoop?

Joel Rosen decided to put it on the car. He thought the owner might like it.??? Also the rear stripe is not totally accurate. It should be wider going into the rear window and wider down the side of the car by the bumperette. It should have covered the side marker light.

I always liked those Corvettes. There was another 69 Motion Phase III GT cover car. This one looks red, has a different "Lemans Style" gas cap, stock front glass, and a different rear stripe. I was told that a pro football player bought a gold and black Phase III GT to match his team colors. When the car was being restored they contacted him and asked what all the extra switches were for that had been installed in the console. The ball player told him it was for his stereo headphones. He said he needed them to hear his music during high speed long distance road trips.

The one pictured on that cover with the Lemans cap and stock front and rear glass was the first GT car built. The reason the front and rear were left factory is that the fiberglass components were not ready in time for the 69 International Auto show and Joel wanted to show off the car and GT program. Also the gills on the front fender were installed upside down as those on most of the other cars! Joel has been known to say sometimes they made that mistake!!! HA! Looks cool no matter how they did it.

By the way, I'm positive that car is Monaco Orange also and not Red. Both of the above cars were in Vette magazine in the April 1992 issue.

Sorry I am not Ed, I am Larry.

Have you ever worked on this car and do you have any pic's of it other that what are in the magazine articles? I am trying to find out where or to who Joel sold it to back in '69. I have been told it was a Pittsburg Steeler and he had it painted black w/gold stripe. Sorry about the wrong car I didn't notice the old dates on this string.

TIA /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The dogs ate up the seats so they put new seats in it. The bar is some type of show bar with a light in it. She liked to cruz the beach with the top down. I think all the stuff you put on is still there. here is a picture /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggthumpup.gif

RONNIE
12-13-2003, 09:09 PM
Yeah thats robins car on thee cover. When i worked on it. It was trashed already. i made the pipes on it a few years ago for Jeffy. The yellow car I've never touched Joel asked me numeous times to do the yellow car over but he wanted it done relly cheap and it need lots of work. I think if I remember correctly tha t Joel sold all the cars in the garage to some one on the west coast a while back for allot. They were the yllow camaro, yellow 70 vette, the blue 74 that I did, The blue grey maco, and the black shark car that I fixed after someone crashed into in the driveway and tore the back off of. Has any one seen an of these cars anywere in a while. I like to see what happened to them and were the are.

JoeC

The yellow 70 was one of Joel's favorit cars. A guy from Indy bought the 4 cars that were at Joel's house. here is a cover shot of it.

JoeC

here is the cover shot of the Super Shark III 4 seat Motion Corvette wild custom show car. I hear it is in CA and needs restoration as the chrome got rusty. It had almost a complete chrome suspension, wild fish mural paint under hood, and custom glass etching work so will be an expensive restoration.

II had to fix the whole back of that one before it was sold. Some one ran a truck into the back of it in joels driveway. the whole back of the car was wrecked pretty good. I din't paint it over causr the new owner was going to restore it. I gave it to him in primer. that car was in real sad shape it was more than just some rusty chrome. That was a real shame joel left that car out side under a cover right next to the great south bay for quite a few years (at least 10) When it was dropped off here I couln't even push it the brakes were so rusted I had to pull it into ths shop with my tractor. I have pics of it somewere I'll tr to get them scanned in and post them here as soon as i can

The owner is a very nice man named Jim Tarkington, He owns a group of new car dealerships in Searcy Arkansas,Trumann Baker Chevrolet,Dodge ect. I saw this car several years ago when he first brought it in to his shop(very rough) and then again not long after the restoration was completed (very nice).I will try to get with Jim & take some photos to post in the next week or so. He lives about 90 min. south of me.

I have taken several photo's of Jim Tarkingtons 69 PhaseIII GT. However the file for each indivdual photo is too large to attach. I will have to get some help & try to post them at a later date.
Ronnie, if you did the body work on this car you did a great job.

Thanks for your interest. I pulled the body off the frame the day after I got home from the reunion. The restoration is going pretty well. I have been working nearly every night & weekend on the car. I have the frame & suspension pieces dissembled, sanblasted & powder coated. I have reworked the flares & rear body panel& have all the body work done to the rear section of the car & in primer I have all the glass work roughed in on the front cap. I have not stopped itching since the first week of September.
I have taken a number of photo's & will try to send some to you. Gary (the brush) also ask me to send some to him & keep him updated on the progress.

The car is in his airplane hangar right now. I know Jim did display the car in his showroom for some time but it has been in the hangar both times I have looked at it.

I am restoring a 68 big block coupe that has all the Phase III stuff on it. Body panels, valve covers, intake, carb, & breather ect. I have traced the car back to the original owner who said he had ordered all of the pieces from Motion & had them installed by a local shop in Philladelphia in early 1973. Gary (the local brush) looked at the car at SCR6 and confirmed what the original owner had told me, that everything was Motion but the work was not done in their shop. As Ed and a few others can attest the car was pretty rough when I got it. Only 36,000 actual miles 1/4 mile at a time. Hope to have complete for SCR7. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/3gears.gif
