The only Harrell I've heard about in MN was a Cortez Silver, Blue interior, a/t on the column '69 Camaro that was from Arkansas. It ended up in Princeton,MN in the late '70's.

I will be going to New Ulm in the next week, and will stop by the fellow who gave me this tip. Will let you know what I find out.(shhh) http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

The cortex silver sounds interesting, do you know more about it?

I have recently seen a column shift '69 with blue interior, but painted black, original color was glacier blue, has Harrell emblems on the back 1/4's like Kevins. X44 code, now has a pass. '69 427/335 with T400 in it. I will post the VIN (with permission from current owner), as he is trying to determine if it is a Harrell car, transplant vs tuner. It is not a Gibb car. Car has not been touched since early '80's, does run with 75K on odometer. Apparently was from Florida in the late 70's. Stored since, however, now back on the road.

Here it is for all to see, the VIN and data plate information for the 1969 Camaro mentioned in the above post:

VIN: 124379N663718

Body Trim Tag:

ST69 12437 NOR351113 BDY
TR715 53 53 PNT
06A X44

Here are a couple of more clues, for you musclecar archeologists. The car is fitted with a Chevelle 12 bolt rear end, with perches and leaf springs. The passenger car 427-335hp/400T is '69 dated, is a 512 casting, but as stated above, not anywhere close as far as being original. It is out of a full size GM from what I can determine.
There is a cutout in the transmission tunnel (6x3") from a floor shifter application, but the column shifter is now operational. It has a cowl hood.

I have not inspected the car up close, to see if it has cowl hood wiring and parts, 3/8 fuel line etc. or other copo items. I hope to do this in the near future.

Back from a month in Peru. http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

The VIN is right in the middle of a bunch of COPO's.
And the trim tag confirms it is a Harrell COPO.
Be curious what options are on the car. Power steering, etc?

What information on the cowl tag confirms it is a Harrell COPO car?

Mike;
I believe the COPO Camaros were built in blocks of body #'s like the other COPO cars. I would imagine that there are other Harrell COPO cars that have body numbers very close to this one. If it's not the body number that signifies it as a COPO, then KurtS has another secret identity process!!

Kurt S.

Can you e-mail me your contact info., I'm sure the owner would like to review things with you.

I have another individual I have been trying to confirm things with, we know it is not a Gibb car also. The owner has been trying to identify for some time. Was a drag car since day one, original owner told him it came from Dick's shop, may have been a ZL1 transplant. Original owner has passed on now, no paperwork available yet. I'll contact him and also see if he wants to review things with you. I don't have permission to list his VIN as of now, however, am sure he would not mind posting the cowl tag.

Here is the cowl tag info:

ST69 12437 NOR 370697BDY

TR711 72 72PNT

07A X44D80

Thank you.

X44 is a base car non big block unless done on some sort of special order like a COPO.

This past weekend I got to look up close at the Glacier Blue (now black) '69 Harrell Camaro mentioned above. It runs and drives. It does have COPO options, big block heater box, 3/8" fuel line, power disc brakes, cowl hood with firewall hole punched above main wiring box (hood had front pins/repaired on top side when repainted black). Welded plate on driver kick up area of frame rail (for dual exhaust?), 4 core staight neck radiator. Dick Harrell emblem on left front upper panel, below "Chevrolet Camaro", and on each rear quarter. No riveted Dick Harrell plates.

The body has 70+K on odometer, very nice interior, appears original, possible new carpet. No style trim, current power steering was added by last owner. The column shift for the 400 is intact and operational. There is a hole for what appears to be a auto floor shifter at one time. Welded in "bolt in" style frame connectors. Chassis has no other major mods, tubs and quarters appear original, same with entire floor, pinch welds, front clip, doors, etc., seem mostly rust free. No other options, other than a possible radio.

When I viewed the trunk, it still has a double electric race fuel pump, disconnected, but bolted where the spare would go. The lid has a spoiler, but it is not a D80 car. There appears to have at one time been an add-on spoiler on the lid. The bottom side has 5 nicely cut round holes on each side near the mid-line of the lid. Has any one seen a aero style spoiler that would mount on two perches? The top side is now patched, must have been done when repainted. Paint appears to be an older laquer respray.
It has after market wheels.

The car appears to be a former race car, reconverted to street use, with lots of originality left. The interior may have been out of the car when raced. The entire drivetrain has been replaced, with a '69 dated passenger car drivetrain, 427/335 with a turbo 400, and a '67(? hard to read cast date) CF coded Chevelle rear, with 4 leaf springs mounted with added perches. The rear may still have a 4 series posi with 4:10's. Maybe the original owner had too much into the race drivetrain and did not want to let it go cheaply, as 20+ years ago I'm sure this car sold for a bit less than todays market prices.

The current owner would like to try and locate former owner(s), car apparently has been registered in Florida, and Arkansas. Car came to Minnesota about 20 years ago, has been parked and driven occasionally since. Anyone ever hear of or see this car as a racecar, or after it was put back on the street?

Thanks for any imput.

KenB.

Ken;
Your report sounds very similar to my notes taken during a phone call to a guy named Larry in Arkansas, if you email me offline I can send you his phone number. Larry told me that he owned a '69 Harrell Camaro, 427 column shift, power disc brakes, metallic silver/blue with Harrell emblems on it. He found the car in Springdale, Arkansas, and sold it somebody in the Princeton, MN area who painted it black and changed the engine. Larry owned a used car lot at the time, and owned several hi-performance cars.

Topstock, yes the vin can be given out here on this site for the X44D80 car with body #370697. It's N666604. Thank you Ken B. and Kurt S. They have done alot to find out more on the car but have hit dead ends, but I really appreciate the effort.

Kurt,
How does the trim tag identify the car as a Harrell COPO? Didn't Harrell get all his COPOs through authorized Chevrolet Dealers?

Happened to be lucky and have a verified Harrell COPO only one body # off from this car. http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Kurt,
Do you think there is a consecutive body run on Harrell prepared COPO's like the Yenko run? Do you have a COPO car before 06A? Since he used 375 SS cars to build his 427 Camaros as late as 01B, when do you feel he switched to the COPO program? We are working on a 01B 427 SS conversion and an 06A COPO Harrell. Have you documented a Harrell COPO that was not a turbo 400 on the column? The Harrell stuff is hard to get info on...BKH

Yes, it looks like he may have ordered batches of them. Real hard to tell how many batches or how big of batches since we only have data on 2 Harrell COPO's, with only 1 car in between no less. Both are column shift autos.
The nature of the database is waiting to find a documented car to figure some of this out. http://www.yenko.net/ubb/smilies/images/icons/smile.gif

Any more news on this Glacier Blue Harrell Camaro? Did you guys get in touch with Larry in Arkansas?

I don't know about the COPO Camaros but the COPO Chevelles certainly weren't built in groups. I have yet to see two consecutive numbers. That isn't to say that a dealer didn't order a batch at one time. They would get spread out in the scheduling.

Yes, the owner has spoken to him, very nice fellow, said he owned the car two times! Such luck. We think the engine was in it when it came to MN, hoping to maybe start searching for it. The history is fuzzy once it got here.
